Leafs must have told him he's out? Leafs will be signing a goalie pretty soon for the Marlies.
He just isn't good enough unfortunately. In the event that Andersen goes down for any stretch you need a guy that can reasonably win a game or two on b2b with Campbell.
I realize that. I was just wondering why he's saying this today is all. And what's up with Dubas? His signing streak is going to end in around 4 hrs lol.

Draft: D- dunno, but meh approach
Kasperi Kapanen trade: A+ robbery
Denis Malgin re-signing: D- meh to sub meh
Jason Spezza re-signing: B: from an org - between meh and ok, as a fan, yay
Wayne Simmonds signing: A: approved
TJ Brodie signing: B+
Travis Boyd signing: D -
Zach Bogosian signing: B+
Andreas Johnsson trade: C - not going to argue
Jimmy Vesey signing: F - awful, garbage, yuck.

Weighted - B minus ish

You sound like you have some high standards for 4th line forwards.

FYI SDP = Steve Dangle Podcast, and he's talking about the Leafs.
I literally came here hoping someone answered that question [emoji14]

Initially all I could figure it to be was San Diego Padres.

This is starting to feel a bit like when Lindros, Allison and Peca all signed with the leafs.

Edit: looks like I got the year wrong. Peca was the year after those 2.

I think O'Neill was the third guy who joined that year, not Peca.

It's not something that I think matters a great deal but if the team ran with a lineup of:

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Robertson-Tavares-Marner
Simmonds-Kerfoot-Mikheyev
Barabanov-Engvall-Spezza

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Dermott-Bogosian

Then you would have a situation where every single forward line would have at least one guy from the GTA and every defense pairing would have a player from Southern Ontario.

Again, not terribly relevant but I can't help but wonder if any other team in any other sport in recent years would have anything close to that sort of thing.

I don't see Thornton signing until much closer to the season depending on how the schedule plays out.  I'd be very interested in him if he's going to come in around 1M.  You can never have too many centers.

Old and slow and fancy, let's go
Simmons - Thornton - Spezza

If Robertson proves not ready for a top 6 role I could get being Robertson being fed passes from Spezza and Thornton. Joe would either have 5 assists as Roberton bricks every shot he takes or he might get 100.

How much does Jumbo Joe have left in the tank?  I remember when the Leafs got Ron Francis at the deadline and he was pretty old and slow.  I hope Joe would still have something to contribute.

As romantic as it sounds, Jumbo Joe is 41.  Not sure there is much left in the tank.

You shut your filthy mouth.

Thornton scored at a 36-point pace while playing 3rd line minutes on a crappy team that could barely score. That's actually a point higher than the pace Kerfoot scored at and he got to play with Tavares and Nylander for parts of last season. He was also one of the few players that had solid possession numbers on the Sharks and seems to have had a bigger impact defensively than Kerfoot did.

Now I think you can make the argument that Kerfoot has more to give (I personally think he would have had a better season if he just stuck at 3C all season as opposed to flipping between positions and lines, but obviously it was necessary for him to move around) and Thornton's age means it's entirely possible that his game takes another step down.

For me if the question was "would I keep Kerfoot long-term as opposed to ditching him for what will likely be just 1 year of Thornton?" I would probably say no uh I meant yes. But since both cap and expansion draft issues likely mean Kerfoot is a goner next season as well and we're picking between these two players for just the 20/21 season I'm a little more comfortable taking a chance on Thornton. Much like with Simmonds we know we aren't getting the same player he was 5 years ago (or even 2 years ago maybe) but if he can provide 40 points, generally keep the puck in the opposing end, take the odd shift against a higher end opposing centre and provide leadership/size/grit I think that'd be a pretty massive success (especially if he's signing for $1.5-2mil or even less).

I would still have two concerns with Thornton. The first is that since San Jose didn't go into the bubble he'll likely be going almost a year without playing a game of hockey. At his age that could be an issue. I'm actually hoping that he'll sign with Davos so he can get a month or so hockey in before coming into camp. The second issue is that he doesn't kill penalties and I'd really like for the teams 3C to have a big role on the PK. If Tavares starts taking reps there this would be less of an issue.
