Just as I had learned to write his name.

Our goaltending prospects suck, don't they?
Don't know yet. I still have hope for Scott and let's see what Will can do this season. Everyone says he has all the tools so.....

Oh well. His numbers playing in North America aren't particularly impressive. Not a big loss.

I know it's quite en vogue around here to be crapping on the management team lately, but all this talk about this huge talented (expensive?) scouting team hired to unearth the hidden gems around the globe and turn them into great returns on investments on the roster really hasn't done a damn thing.

Like, even Mikheyev is very replaceable on the UFA market at the same buck.

Come on, we're literally 48 hours away from signing Michael Bunting.

I do actually agree though that generally speaking between our pro scouts, amateur scouts, and R&D department you'd kinda expect/hope we'd have uncovered another couple of gems through either the draft or trades or signings.

For a lot of the hidden gems, we're still a couple seasons away from seeing if any of the swings the Dubas-led front office has actually uncovered any or if they've just struck out. We might start to see some of the 2018 class start to breakthrough a little this season, but the rest are still too early in their development paths to say much about.

As for the international free agent market - I don't know how many truly hidden gems there really are out there. There's some useful NHL pieces - and the Leafs have brought over a few of those - but in terms of guys who can be significant producers? They're getting identified earlier and not getting passed over in the draft at the frequency they might once have.

Sure, but our farm system really isn't even ranked in the upper tier of the league.

These guys and girls were supposed to put the Leafs there.  You'd think that by now there'd at least be some pretty significant signs of superior prospects.

I guess that's kind of my point...what did we need all these international spies for then?

Yeah I can see this side of the argument as well. Maybe my biggest disappointment is that we haven't really seen the team try to steal good players from quote/unquote dumber teams that aren't appreciating them as much as they should be. Galchenyuk would be the closest we've seen recently and it ended up being a decent bet but he might not even be returning to the team now.

This might be more a function of cap space, and where mistakes are generally made on the cap hit spectrum (3-6M)

He has to sign by Aug 15th or become a UFA. Drafted in the Matthews draft. Don't even know if they'll get a pick out of the deal.

It's so barren and lonely on the right side of that ledger
