2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Good article on Kampf here.

An added note: since being on the ice for 4 of them in the Pittsburgh debacle Kampf has gone 11 straight games without being on the ice for a 5-on-5 goal against.

Well tmlfans.ca folks...you can thank carlton for the super jinx on Kampf for the next little while.

Jesus.

I'll tell you what if Kampf gets scored on next game I'll make the next 10 GDTs as penance.

How far down is Hutchinson on the depth chart?

Not far enough.

Good article on Kampf here.

Sources say the coaching staff have been getting into trouble with Ford Performance Centre management because they keep lighting up cigarettes after Kampf video sessions.

Sounds like a deal...wait...

He has only 43 career games with the team but at present Campbell sits 1st overall in career save percentage for Leafs goalies who have played more than 1 period of NHL hockey with the team.  He's 28th in career wins and 19th in career shutouts.

Extend the man before we can't afford him.

I'm a little more risk averse than you are here.

I think they need to see if he can do 50ish games without getting injured again.

My thinking here is that they do this extension based on his current performance, then he goes down again for 2 months, and the trend there is that his body can't handle anything but 30-40 games a year, then they've got an anchor of a contract on a guy that is a platoon guy at best and you're paying him starter money.

Look, if he's willing to take $3.5m a year on a 4 year deal, go ahead.  But if his ask is $4m-$5m X 5, I wait to see how the season goes, even if that costs me an extra $1m or so per year.

He's 29 and has a career high of 31 NHL starts in a year.  He's shown he's injury prone.  He's a great goalie, but he hasn't shown he's durable starter material.  If anything, he's shown the opposite.

To be fair, before last season, he never had that opportunity. He's had some injury issues, but he's also played behind well-established starters throughout his career.

I stand shoulder to shoulder with you.  This can't be allowed to become Andrew Hammond, the horror sequel.

I harbor the same fears regarding Campbell.  He's great now but will it last long term?  As long as he can maintain this through June 2022 and the Leafs win the Cup, I don't care if he turns into Rick DiPietro at that point.  Let's just win this thing.
