2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

It's largely just sort of symbolic, but I think there's something to be said for thinking that you "get ready to go to work"...a lot of people that work for our company told me that during the lockdowns, when working from home, that they started getting dressed-up for the zoom meetings because they felt more prepared and in a better mindset.

I'm sure that's true inasmuch as the alternative being in a bathrobe and slippers but there's all sorts of jobs around the world and most of them don't require a suit and tie. I don't think athletes cosplaying as stockbrokers lends them any added dedication to their work but for guys this deep in the hockey world they're probably used to it so whatever.

That's probably true. I mean, for me it'd be a big deal because I've gained 10 lb and refuse to buy new clothes. But that's probs not an issue for NHLers.
I gained at least 10 and started at only a buck forty! [emoji58]

Matthews had just 2 goals at 5-on-5 in 17 games this season and was on a 10-game 5-on-5 goalless streak before scoring 5 in his last 4 games:

The Leafs are literally Matthews regressing to normal shooting percentages (ahem, wrist surgery) from blowing teams out.

Well that didn't take long. Since I wrote that:
GPGAPTSEVPPSHGWSS%
461760001931.6

The Leafs have gone
6-2 over LAK
4-1 over SJS
5-1 over ANA
8-3 over COL

and were only able to go +3 once in the previous 20 games (vs BOS, Nov 6) when Matthews and Tavares both potted 2 goals.

That's pretty good.  I'll just trot this back out from a couple of years ago:

Mr. Sandman, bring us our dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)
You?ve come from Sweden, part of Dubas?s scheme (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Keep it simple, stay home, don?t be a rover (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Then tell us that our lonesome years are finally over
Sandman, we?ve waited so long (bung, bung, bung, bung)
I?ve resorted to writing this song (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring us our dream

Mr. Sandman, quick as a wink (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Help us find Stanley, he?s nearby we think (bung, bung, bung, bung)
He?s tall and he?s silver, with beautiful rings (bung, bung, bung, bung)
It?s past time for us Leaf fans to have some nice things
Sandman, to you I implore (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Haven?t won a series since two thousand and four (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Please make us into a Cup-winning team
Mr. Sandman, bring us our dream

Yeah, I mean they aren't just beating teams now, they're dummying them, although I do think the COL game would've been much closer with an NHL calibre goaltender.

Groin seems fine?

Game speed not quite there yet. Also the Marlies have been poop since Keefe was promoted.

Was at the game. Mrazek made some good saves. 1st goal, guy used a Dman for a screen. 2nd goal guy was left alone cross crease, 3rd was a breakaway and 4th went off Lurch's skate from behind the net.  Hard to really blame him on any of the goals. He looked smooth and was great handling the puck.
On another note Ho-Sang isn't quite ready yet from what I can tell. He's  slick and works hard out there but needs a little more work on his consistency. I think he's up before the year's out. Steeves looks like a keeper for sure. SDA is pretty slick also. I like that Abramov and Steeves were on the PK.

Wow, did not know this. Totally normal stat for one of the best players in the league to have.
