2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Just run Nylander with him. Tavares can lift fast, straight line plugs.

Yeah they can't do this "rotate 4th liners with him" thing for 4 weeks. I get they're hesitant to break up Kampf-Kase but as the only other skilled righty in the line-up Kase probably needs to get up in the top-6. Maybe once Mikheyev is back shortly Keefe will feel more comfortable doing that.
I 100% would move Kase there in the interim. Gotta see if he can step up when needed anyway.

I think Keefe wants to keep that 3rd line intact. Like CTB said, when Mikheyev gets back, it will change because he has a better option to replace Kase or try Mikheyev there. I think Willy, Steeves and Kase will get shifts with him tonight. Unless Simmonds plays beyond expectations, I don't see him there long term.

Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Steeves - Tavares - Kase
Engvall - Kampf - Simmonds
Ritchie - Kerfoot - Clifford

Anyone un-bolded is interchangeable parts, other than Clifford should stay in the bottom line, and Ritchie should stay on the bottom-6.

Clifford should stay on the Marlies....not a fan. Would rather have a guy like Seney up.

OMG!!! I got it.  I cracked the code.  Move Nick Ritchie to the right side.  Problem solved.  You're welcome Leaf nation.

He does already play like he's using the wrong sided stick

What?s the worst that can happen.  He scores zero goals?

Why put Engvall up over Kerfoot? I'd go back to an 8-minute 4th line.

Kampf is a better shutdown centre with Engvall than without. Engvall is better with Kampf.

You can get Kerfoot special teams minutes. He is otherwise a 5v5 passenger.

This is fake, but let me just commend his ability to absolutely nail the zeitgeist every time. The link has me in tears

Just thinking today about how Jason Spezza, with his sterling career and clean sheet, has thrown all of that onto the ice to will his childhood team (and himself by extension) to Cup victory: fights, hits in response to his kids getting hurt, scoring old school goals when the team needs it most...

I'm ready to start carving that Legends Row statue, and I hope he enjoys the two weeks off with his lovely family.

Yup:

On November 23rd, Matthews was tied with a boatload of players for 35th in the league in goals and 11 back of the league lead.

2 weeks later, he's jumped into a tie for 3rd and is now just 4 back of Draisaitl.

I knew the goals would come eventually but I really thought the slow-ish start (which was still a 33-goal pace hilariously enough) would make Rocket contention very tough.

The scary thing to me is that I still don't think we've seen him really dominate games in the way he did last season. He's getting the puck in the net, but there's been less of the "I'm going to score now" beastmode that we've gotten used to. I don't think he's 100% yet.

Plus, we've got three players in the top 20 in scoring: Matthews, Tavares, and Nylander. Rielly tied for 6th for D.

Draisaitl has 1 ES goal in his last 12 games (and only 9 of his 21 goals this season have been even strength and only 6 of those are 5-on-5). Not a huge shock his pace has slowed.

Ritchie has played 1/3 of the time Engvall has with Kampf/Kase.
So far...
Ritchie with Kampf 3GF, 4GA and Kase 4GF, 2GA.
Engvall with Kampf 3GF, 1GA, Kase 3GF, 3GA.

I think Spez was going for the hit and just continued on after Pionk had leaned down. The same way you're supposed to let up if the guy gets out of the way for a knee, he should have let up when he saw Pionk in that vulnerable position and he didn't. 1200 games without a suspension should warrant a reduction during the appeal methinks.

Checks career playoff stats:

Mitch Marner - 5G 20A 25P in 30 GP
Tom Wilson - 13G 17A 30P in 82 GP

Tom Wilson had 15 points in 21GP in 2017-2018

This was preceded by 3G 2A in 41GP in his first four playoff appearances and has been followed by 5G 5A in 20GP since that run.  So 8G 7A 15P in 61GP

Numbers are fun.

When one sees 2,3,4 goals, the sample size is just too small to say anything much.  It's just a couple of bounces one way vs the other.
