2022-2023 NHL trades and signings

But the few teams with salary-cap space are in the driver?s seat. Bjorkstrand, 27, had 28 goals last season and is under contract for the next four seasons. That?s whom Seattle wanted.

?This was the best of the no-good options for us to become cap compliant,? Kekalainen said. ?This had to be done.?

Apropos of nothing

I think we need to start poking the league with a stick.  The lack of anything happening is getting boring.

Kind of wild that we saw to some degree more big trades than FA signings.

You can eyeball how much league-wide salary cap is remaining and how much of that pie the remaining free agents stand to claim. The teams they want to play for are the ones most hard pressed to pay them handsomely.

Anaheim and Arizona look poised to take on cap dumps to facilitate the big signings and try to reap some assets in return. I'm sure they'd be happy to eat insured LTIR contracts for some good picks. The Jets have swung and missed on basically everyone they've tried on so far and don't have enough for a full roster (trying to offload PLD too).

I?m wondering if you could generate a predictive model of league activity based on remaining league-wide cap space.

We quickly entered the post-frenzy lull this offseason, but, at the same time, other than Kadri and Klingberg, there's not a ton of interesting names out there. It's mostly guys at the tail-end of their careers (many of whom are probably contemplating retirement) and depth pieces/role players. A number of them will find homes after arbitration cases get settled, but, I suspect we'll see a lot of players heading to Europe this season, as well as a large number of PTOs - as I suspect a large portion of the teams that still have available spots near the bottoms of their rosters will be hoping that some of their prospects will step up in training camp.

Oof

Damn, Heinen at $1mil is definitely a bargain. I'm very curious now to see what guys like Larsson, Rodrigues, Milano, Motte, and ZAR get.

NJD loves splashing cash on UFAs, but when it comes time to re-up their breakout star, it's a bit of a dogfight every time.
