2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Josi got 3 fourth place votes and 195 people voted for Makar in the top 5 while 194 did for Josi so at least one person didn?t even put him top 5.  NHL voters are stupid

Pretty resoundingly

Love those 4 Montreal voters

NHL speeches are dumb anyway but having a terrible comedy sketch and then giving your Hart winner 7 seconds for his speech because you ran over time.  Yet another high water mark for the NHL!

Nice to see Matthews honored. It's well deserved, would have been my choice and it's reassuring to see it wasn't particularly close. He had a hell of a season and between the goals and his emergence as a really solid defensive forward I'm glad to see the recognition.

It's been a long time since a Leaf won this award. It's a good thing to celebrate.

I'll trade 75 Hart trophies for a playoff round win.

I used to be in the camp that only playoff success mattered.  I'm sure it sounds like a cop-out to excuse the Leafs' flameouts the last 6 years, but honestly putting that aside as I get older I find myself enjoying outstanding regular-season performances as much as anything.

This team is easily the most fun Leafs squad I've seen since I started following the team.  No one will displace Sundin as my favorite player, but Matthews (and Marner by his side) have taken it to a whole new level of enjoyment.  It's just pure pleasure to watch their skills on display.  Nylander and, yes, Tavares are great to watch too.

This is a hell of a big deal, actually.  For a franchise that calls itself "storied" there are actually very few legendary players in its history ? nothing, if we're being honest with ourselves, compared to Montreal.  If Matthews stays healthy he'll be in the stratosphere of the very best players who have ever played the game.

Sure, I want us to win a Cup ? badly.  But I am going to enjoy Auston as often as I can for as long as he's a Leaf.  Congrats to him, and good on him for not pretending like he didn't want/need the honors.

I agree, playoff series/Cup wins would be nice but having an eighty two game successful season is necessary above all else to me.

Not winning in the playoffs hurts mostly because I hate to watch the Leafs lose, period.

Chris Johnston doesn?t have real sources within the Leafs at this point.  He should stick to shilling bitcoins, NFTs and sports betting

If he?s not posting it to his own Twitter, he?s pulling it out of his butt. It?s a clear indication he?s not willing to own the info.

TV segments actually just barely edge out twitter drops on my official list of "where legitimate information/rumours are released".

TV segments during game broadcasts, absolutely. TV segments otherwise? Very much a coinflip.

They still beat podcasts! Anyway unlike his thoughts on crypto I don't really think anything he said about the Leafs there is all that insane. It's reasonable to think that's where the Soups' agents are at at least.

Maybe I'll get there one day, but I doubt it unless they win a Cup. Once they win one, I think I'll be much more open to enjoying other areas. I saw the Jays win two World Series and can enjoy all sorts of things baseball. I especially enjoyed booing Donaldson this past Sunday at the game.

Oh yeah, podcasts only really beat out local radio appearances. And, considering, last week or the week before, he was saying there was no dialogue when Campbell's agent was telling the Athletic there was good dialogue, I also wouldn't say it's that insane - just a little bit behind the reporting elsewhere and possibly/probably out-of-date information.

I really enjoyed the regular season? And I told myself that I was going to enjoy this no matter what happens in the playoffs. Yet the playoff loss still stings.  a lot.  oh well.  just want to push through the summer and get back to regular season hope.

Just read a piece in the athletic. I think Ville Husso and Varlamov are the two goalies I?m hoping for next year.  Other thoughts?
