2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

MLHS out with an article that doesn't exactly trash Keefe, but certainly (and rightly IMO) questions his creativity.  They give him credit (also rightly IMO) for improving his coaching vs TB last playoffs, but the whole tone of the article is pretty skeptical.  Basically they say with the addition of ROR/Acciari, it's on Keefe to start making adjustments up and down the lineup, 5 on 5 and on special teams, when the need arises ... as he has been unwilling to do so often.  They even instance Sunday's game against Chicago as an example.

Something tells me the Leafs' front office are the ones initiating, and mapping out the logistics for the threeways.

Anderson on waivers, not surprising.

I don't think he's a definite claim, and if he was claimed I don't think it's the end of the world, but keeping him on the roster just long enough for him to lose his prior waiver designation even though he was almost certainly going to need to be sent down again eventually around this time was a little odd. Coulda just played McMann or Steeves for another few games instead.

Gonna see a lot of Anderson type players on waivers over the next week as teams try to create a little more flexibility to accommodate deadline acquisitions.

It was kind of funny at the Marlies game Monday watching Johnsson play for Utica and Anderson still pretty much an AHLer also. Gotta say that trade ended up being good for the Leafs. No NHLers but they saved lots of cap space.

Johnsson was crushing it in the AHL for awhile, putting up PPG+ numbers and looking like he didn't really belong there, but he only has 2 points in his last 13 games down there now. Weird.

He wasn't the player I was expecting. I guess I had higher expectations.

I get that it was a camp space trade but I still find it hard to believe that Anderson was the best they could get for him.  A tweener at best.

Outside of one season, Johnsson has been a pretty ordinary 3rd liner at best, and was showing that the season before he got dealt. Those guys don?t go for much, especially when they carry a cap hit of $3.4M. A tweezer or a mid round pick was the best we should have reasonably expected if we looked at Johnson?s value objectively.

They got fair value for him. Anderson had/has promise. Don't know if it'll ever be enough for the show though.

Will they bring up McMann, that is the musical question?
At some point I think we see him. He's killing it for the Marlies. Holmberg too. All depends on the deadline and what happens tho.

In my eye test, McMann was a helluva lot more noticeable than Joey in his brief tenure with the club. If he had had the luck to pot 2 or 3 while with the Leafs, Joey wouldn't have had his opportunity.

Agree. Been to some Marlies games since he was sent down, his confidence is shining through.

Yeah, of all the callups, I think McMann had the most impact. Hopefully he gets a longer look next season.

Regarding waiving Anderson, I can't help but think that it's a precursor to acquiring a bit more D depth.
