2023-24 NHL Thread

I feel bad for Jack, but I mean this is what happens when you maximize every dollar to the detriment of other things. I think he had a good thing here and could've made a go of things if he didn't seek out $5M+

I don?t know about how good a thing he had here. He really struggled in the 2nd half of his last season here - partly due to injury, but also a trend of poor play that continued in Edmonton. I think he?s just not suited to being a starting goalie. He seems to be at his best when he only expects to get ~25 starts in a season.

I don?t know if that?s really a fair way of looking at this. Edmonton basically threw this offer at him. He?d have been stupid not to take it.

I don?t blame him at all. This might be tough on him but at the end of the day, he?s set for the rest of his life.

Being sent to the minors feels bad.  That could happen regardless of whether or not he has a large contract. Indeed, if his contract was < $1,000,000 it might be more likely that he be sent to the minors because the contract is easy to bury without cap implications.  At least this way he still has the money.  I don't see the downside of him taking the money.

Crazy how quickly a NHL career can fizzle out.

On a related note Joey Anderson has 11 points in 7 AHL games this season. Dude should be in the NHL somewhere.

Good for Joey.
Sad and somewhat surprised to see Andreas Johnsson waived for termination. He's only 28.
Or Campbell.
Once I've cheered for them on the Marlies or Leafs, I tend to continue to have a bit of a soft spot for them wherever they go for the rest of their career. As long as it isn't against the Leafs or Marlies, I'm usually happy to see them do well.
It can be a tough business.

I feel bad for Campbell.  He's a genuinely good guy who's own mind gets the best of him.  Some guys would take this demotion as incentive to come back stronger than ever.  Others have this bury them.  Campbell seems like the latter type, although I'm hopeful that's not the case.

Even though he has a $25 million cushion to fall back on and wipe any tears away, he's too prideful to not be crushed by something like this.

I don't feel bad for anyone making that kind of money. Nice guy, terrible goalie.

He should come to Europe, reckon he could do well in somewhere like Germany especially. And the Germans have a great affinity with their goalies.

I could buy a tissue company for 25M.

this is extremely NHL

Like, NFT's are very 2021 right?

And a scam vehicle to funnel money from shmucks and rubes that most people have already caught on to, early last year. Which tells me the NHL currently being swindled (or they don't want to pay UpperDeck or whoever makes physical print cards these days).

Yeah NFT's were crashing, and crashing hard, even when the league first announced this project in 2022. They got into it way late, much later than the other big sports, and decided to stay the course even when it was clearly a sinking ship.
