2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Minten gets his call-up, probably sooner than the Leafs would have liked. Let's see if he can stick.

This is going to be interesting; I thought they might call up Quillan first, but he's not much different than Holmberg at this point, and I guess they want to see Minten against NHL speed given they didn't get that chance in preseason. Big gaps between games this week against western teams, so a bit less... urgent, compared to the following week in Florida.

Berube was using Kampf to shelter Domi, who is clearly playing through something that he probably wouldn't if Matthews wasn't dinged up. And now they're both busted. We still have Holmberg, Dewar, and Lorentz, but neither of them really fill out the Kampf or even Domi niches, let alone Matthews. Use this part of the schedule to figure out what we need to buy in February.

McMann-Tavares-Marner
Knies-Minten-Nylander (please?!?!!)
Robertson-Domi-Holmberg
Lorentz-Dewar-Steeves

Toronto's "Matthews has NOT had a setback" t-shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by their shirt.

Uh, this is ominous, folks.

Well Treliving claims he's expected to play possibly Sunday and if not then then later next week, which feels unlikely but hey we'll see.

It's definitely starting to sound concerning, but also very confusing. He was skating not that long ago, and now he needed to meet with a specialist in Germany? Sounds like it's not progressing as hoped, but not getting worse, either.

Unless it did get worse. And if it sounds fishy ... it's worse.

Every new tweet about this has been better than the last. Things are actually going great really!

According to several sources, Matthews went to Germany this week to visit a clinic “he knows and trusts. If space is available, you take it.”

Those same sources stressed not to get fixated on the destination, saying that just because it isn’t local, it shouldn’t cause panic.

It was also stressed that: surgery for Matthews’ undisclosed injury is not being considered and was never part of this process; the European trip was an opportunity to get some “overall body work” done in addition to treatment of whatever is ailing him; and shouldn’t be taken as any indictment of the Maple Leafs’ doctors care as “players get second opinions all the time.” In fact, one of Toronto’s team doctors travelled with Matthews.
