2024 Offseason Thread: Changes

I do not like that OEL contract if true....IF it is though (and Tanev for 5M is still happening) that would leave the Leafs with 3.955M in cap space to sign a 1B goalie, a 12th forward and go with 12F 7D 2G

That doesn't factor in Minten, Cowan or Dewar (or Robertson who doesn't want to play with us anymore)

Get Dewar done at $1.1m x 2 years and a goalie at $2.5m x 2 years.

Can still dump Kampf/Jarnkrok/Reaves/Timmins as needed

I thought I saw a note about Stolarz to Toronto for about Joseph Woll extension numbers.

I think OEL is a fine D-man with puck moving skills and size/mobility, but he?s kind of just a very luxurious 3LD at $3+M

Rielly - Tanev
Ekman-Larsson - Liljegren
Benoit - McCabe
Timmins, Lyubushkin (probably)
is better than usual but not optimal

I hate this.

Is Sean Walker too expensive?

Well their bonuses were paid today so the possibility increases

How much space do they have left?  Realistic 3C, 2RHD, winger options?

About $8.4m with Timmins in the minors and carving out $1.1m for Dewar (my guess).

Need at least a goalie a D-Man.

I have them at 18 signed (11 forwards, 6 dmen, 1 goalie) with $8.45M cap space

They're currently on the hook for Dewar's arbitration (if he hasn't re-signed yet ..)
I've seen estimates for Brossoit for $2.2M but the bidding could take that to $3M

So they have $4-5M for forward or dman or both. - roughly.

He was projected to get $4.6M/yr but with the competition for the fewer RH dmen, it could easily go higher.

I was interested in him for economy. Great PKer. Close to 30pts. From Ontario. Been a 4/5 historically.
But I doubted Treliving would go for him because he's not big.

Yeah, I wanted him for his PK ability.

Big priority now is to make sure they get a decent tandem goalie.

They got him.

So after a flurry of moves the Leafs sit at something like:

Domi-Matthews-Nylander
Knies-Tavares-Marner
McMann-Holmberg-Jarnkrok
Dewar-Kampf-Reaves

Rielly-Tanev
Benoit-McCabe
OEL-Liljegren

Woll
Stolarz

Projecting Dewar at $950k, that's a 20 man roster with about $3.1mil in cap space still. (edit: actually $500k less than that so $2.6mil, because CF still has Stolarz at $2mil which seems like an error since everyone has called it $2.5mil)

D and G is probably set, aside from adding a 7D (or Timmins). Forward can still use an upgrade, especially at 3C to bump Holmberg down. Some room to make that happen, more if a Jarnkrok or Kampf gets moved for cap relief.

The decision to trade Matthews for Alex Nylander was a controversial one but I liked it.

Uhhh, I had "Nylander should play C" on my brain too much.
