DeBruak once asked ro be traded....we'll see how this goes

DeBrusk asked plenty of times to be traded. Robertson was paying his due and the Leafs still hold his rights even if he sits out so whatever.
It's not whatever. Kid can shoot the puck and hes an asset. I think if he gets a good chance under Berube he'll be good for the team or as a trading chip. Like herman points out often, goalies don't handle his shot clean a lot of the time. Would love to see him get a chance in the top 6.

It is whatever in the sense that he has no leverage. He can say what he wants but ultimately he's not gonna want to sit out out of spite.

Gotcha...I don't think he's sitting out either. Not good for anyone.

He's not a 4th liner. He's not a center.
Marner, Nylander & Jarnkrok are ahead of him on the right side.
Domi, Knies & McMann are ahead of him on the left side.
There's talk of them looking at Skinner.

Leafs will be going with a 22 man or less roster because they're so tight to the cap.

He's not waiver exempt any longer.

His agent probably feels the publicity of a trade request might get him to a better destination now than the waiver wire in September. Maybe there is a developing team that needs a scoring winger and they're not too hung up on 2-way play yet.

With Cade Webber and Matt Murray in the AHL the Leafs now have 955,333 in cap space with 11F, 8D, and 2G on the roster.

Connor Timmins is an easy jettison to create space for a slightly better 12th forward but the Leafs are going to have to move one of Kampf/Jarnkrok/Liljegren if they want to have a 13th forward/have any cap space going into the season.

My offseason shopping list:
[x] top pair RD
[x] PK RD: Tanev and Hakanpaa (and OEL)
[x] tandem goalie
[ ] middle-six centre
[-] depth scoring

Defense improved for sure but a bit older than I was hoping they?d be.

Pretty much perfect on the goalie front(s).

Forwards remain a work in progress (y?all know where I want it to go), but as it stands, it would technically be okay to start a season this way.

A much better day one than last season?s day one, and plenty of time to make some adjustments up front.

I am perturbed. Looking at the contracts signed today, I would have given more money to add Brett Pesce or Sean Walker instead of OEL.

OEL signing is so puzzling to me. I'd have him 4th on the Leafs depth chart at LD. I really don't get it.

Stolarz signing is just what the team needed. A+. Liked Domi and Tanev as well. Hakanp?? good too.

I approve Murray too.

Pesce seemed headed to the Devils weeks ago.

Of the RH Dmen, these guys re-signed with their teams:
Jalen Chatfield (4/5)
Tyler Myers (4/5)
Dylan DeMelo
Alexandre Carrier

Leafs traded for and signed Tanev

These were the only 4 RH Dmen of note to become UFAs
Brett Pesce - an American, was linked with New Jersey for weeks
Matt Roy, an American wanted to remain in the US
Brandon Montour - was out of their price range
Sean Walker (who is really a 4/5) apparently didn't have the Leafs on his list as a possible destination

Leafs got 1 of the five most of the 32 teams would have liked which is not bad under the circumstances.

I also wasn't keen on OEL. He is a puck mover who should do well with our forwards offensively but he may be a defensive liability. He played for Treliving for years in Az. He knows him well. Treliving maintained he's still got his legs - he still thinks he can play. He'd know better than the few times I saw him play this year.

OEL might make Liljegren, a 4/5 RH dman on a reasonable $3 mil x 2 yr deal, expendable so they can flip him for assets to get a 3rd line center or some forward help. Liljegren is a UFA in 2 years.

So I've cooled off to a wait and see position.

184 players (25% of the league) signed contracts for $1.2 billion today. A big hunk was done in the first 30-60 minutes of free agency (or just before). All that craziness considered, I think the Leafs handled it pretty well. The dmen were older than we would have liked but I didn't feel like there were a lot of the "ones that got away". They have four more shots with Matthews and they can't wait until next year.

"No update on Mitch. I appreciate the question. As I said the other day, I am not going to do play-by-play. Mitch is a great player. We are lucky to have him. I know there is a lot going on?a lot of noise around it?but today, we are focused on free agency. I appreciate the question, but I think Craig alluded to it in his last press availability. He is excited to coach him. We move forward. We are not going to address it. There is no update there. Mitch is training, preparing, and getting ready for the season."

Treliving on Marner from the video above

Overall, I'd say it was a relatively successful start to the off-season for the Leafs.

Stolarz is a good pickup to help shore up the goaltending.  Woll re-signed with some term as well.  Feel more comfortable with this tandem than the one from last year.

The D certainly improved.  Tanev brings size and toughness and a partner for Rielly that the team has sorely lacked.  I'm skeptical of OEL, but here's hoping he brings a secondary offensive option the back end that Barrie and Klingberg were unable to.  If Hakanpaa can bring some nastiness to the bottom pairing, all the better.

Re-signed Domi, but lost Bertuzzi.  The forward group as of right now is not better, but it was also the area that needed least focus, and I imagine it'll be rounded out with some tinkering.  Perhaps some cap space freed up with a trade and a UFA sitting out there signed for cheap.

Will these moves push the team over the top?  I wouldn't bet on it, but maybe Berube brings something out of this team Keefe was unable to.
