2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

A lot of half decent goalies on the list if the Leafs wanted to pluck someone off here to cover for Woll while he's away. Especially if the team has an idea that his return isn't imminent.

They waived Pezzetta as well, opening up the potential roster spot for a pick up.

Well, it's that time of year...what are you guys doing as far as TV packages to watch the games?
I got another year of Sportsnet+ right before the price increase went in. Still gotta use a VPN to get around the blacked out games (which is getting a little harder to do as someone don't work anymore) but I should be set for the season. Big bonus to have the Jays on there too of course right now.

I'll have to take a stronger look at other options next season with the new price but I haven't had cable for basically my entire adult life (I sail the high seas for all my movie/tv viewing) and when I looked at prices I just couldn't justify it for basically just Leafs games.

I really don't get making significant changes to 3 of your 4 lines all because your 4C got injured. Like I've criticized Kampf's contract as much as anyone but I don't think it's fair to say that he's not a NHL player. And heck as a 5C he's definitely above average. Can't really think of a reason why he's not just sliding into Laughton's spot while keeping the top 3 lines from before intact.

Knies - Matthews - Maccelli
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Joshua - Domi - Robertson
Lorentz - Roy - Jarnkrok

That's not far off how I would run it. I'd actually Move Roy between Domi and Robertson and Kampf in the middle of Joshua and Lorentz..but what do I know.

That said, Roy and Joshua IMO have shown very little to say they should be in the line up before Jarnkrok or Robertson. Other than Roy being a C

I don't get it either and I don't know how this helps his trade value if they're shopping him. Maybe they keep Cowan for a number of games and send him back down then make the switch?

Sorry for bringing up Marner, but I'm just getting caught up.

I believe it was disastrous for him to leave. How can it not be? He was a phenomenal talent, the likes of which this team likely won't see for a very long time. His leaving makes this team worse.

However, life moves on. They've built a new team with a somewhat different look. Maybe it'll have success. Maybe it won't.

The thing I don't get is the voracity with which Treliving's role is debated. For trading, the arguments are 1. He should have had a crystal ball and somehow traded him before his NMC kicked in. or 2. He should have masterfully convinced Marner to waive and allow himself to be traded.

Sometimes shit just happens. I don't understand the massive "failure" in Treliving. Do people who make this argument not understand just how limited his options were?

I've made my opinion clear. Cowan should be in the AHL playing top 6 minutes. If he deserves the callup, bring him up later in the year. If the roster is a trainwreck, bring him up later. Don't waste NHL assets right now on unnecessary callups.

I could kind of see the argument for that line with Laughton and Cowan. Then the option to drop Cowan in for spot duty in other places if he earned it during games etc.

But yeah, he's better off top line and doing everything in the AHL than playing with Kampf or anyone else in the usual bottom 6 really.

He's the only waiver exempt skater so I suspect it will be inevitable that he will see more time than he likes in the AHL to help them manage under the cap. To have Quillan on the opening roster to save themselves $1,500 cap space tells you a bunch of what you need to know about their priorities with Cowan and the AHL. Robertson can fill him in on that role and what it is all about. OTH, if Maccelli or Domi or whoever else don't work out or slump on Matthews wing, he probably would get a try there at some point.

Absolutely. Kampf should come up and just man the fourth line for the time being. I will say I do think that the lineup is pretty deep as is, but I'd be very happy if they shed Kampf/Jarnkrok and brought in a second line centre or top 6 winger at the deadline to give the team better punch.
