Armchair GM Thread 2024-25

I wouldn't pick Beaudoin first overall lol. I think you have to kind of look at what's not being said as much as what the reports do say, especially if it's an in-depth fluff piece. He has a very high floor, but the ceiling is unknown/estimated low given is relatively limited production.

If we can get into the second round of the draft, I'd probably take a run at Adam Kleber; I highly doubt he gets picked in Rd 1 (EJ Emery, Carter Yakemchuk, Dominik Badinka, Charlie Elick are also tall, mobile RD), but I don't see him lasting past Rd 3. NCAA commits might also get passed over due to the flight risk these days.

The Hockey News: Kings Shouldn't Entertain Re-Signing Matt Roy

One man's opinion but the more top 4 UFA right handed dmen on the market, the better the chances are that the Leafs get one or two of them.

I doubt he'll come to Toronto as he is an American with a young family.
But he seems to be the talent profile and ability of what the Leafs need so he'd be near the top of my list.

There are two positions I?m okay overpaying for: shooting threat 1C, and top pair two-way RD. I think the Leafs should make a compelling pitch for Roy.

4 year Matthews window:

Roy age 29-33
Tanev age 34-38

Physical hockey players tend have a shorter playing career.

LTIR is a great thing except for one playoff run: the season he breaks down, you are likely without him.

I swear these scouting reports make you feel as though everyone could be picked first overall.

I've said elsewhere that reading the scouting reports every year always makes me wish we had at least five first round picks.

Yeah honestly I knew someone else had something similar but I couldn?t remember who or where. So sorry - didn?t mean to steal it from you!

Sorry if it came across differently, but I posted that to add to your point about how good these prospects sound. Definitely think some of these scouts/writers could do well in marketing if they ever fancy a change of career!

Robidas Island into "scouting" job. Give them an extra year or two.

Who do we all want in the 1st round of the draft then?

Kleber, 6'6" RHD who can skate and carry the biscuit.

Yes please.

And his name is close enough to Keebler cookies that many great cookie analogies could be made when he plays
He will probably serve up biscuits.

Nylander bros? Alex had 11 goals and 15 points in 23 games with Columbus this past season. Kinda surprised they wouldn't qualify him. Maybe they're afraid of arbitration... but why?

Cause they're fucking cheap

Given what we have and barring any late summer big trades, we have two general paths for the lineup:

STATUS QUO
Domi-Matthews-Marner
Knies-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson-Holmberg-McMann
Dewar-Kampf-Jarnkrok

Rielly-Tanev
EkmanLarsson-Liljegren
Benoit-McCabe

Woll
Stolarz

BOTOX (injecting some youth)
Knies-Matthews-McMann
Minten-Tavares-Nylander
Cowan-Domi-Marner (an absolutely insufferable combination)
Holmberg-Dewar-Jarnkrok

Rielly-Tanev
McCabe-Liljegren
Benoit-Timmins

Woll
Stolarz
