Auston Matthews

I admit I'm maybe parsing language too carefully on this one but there's a certain frustration after for roughly saying for 10 years on this particular board "The Leafs need to do this because it's the only way they'll land a certain kind of player" and then the Leafs doing that, landing that kind of player and hearing "Gosh, who'da thunk it?". Especially when people are then following it up with "Well, things are 100% now. No need for more high draft picks or trading JVR's ever again!"

I mean, it's not Nik the Cassandra.

I don't fully understand, as I wasn't here for those 10 years, and I certainly haven't read back that far, but I can imagine what that's like, and I can definitely see why that'd be quite frustrating.

Sorry fella, but if you weren't here during the time we were hotly debating whether it was the right move to put Clarke Wilm out there to protect a 1-goal lead late in the game, then you have no legitimacy.*

Awesome Matthews steals a puck. This is a recording.

Auston deservedly gets the lion's share of attention but JvR's goal tonight was spectacular, and the GWG to boot.

Matthews only the 4th Leafs rookie to score 22 goals.

Wendel Clark -34
Daniel Marois -31
Sergei Berezin -25
Auston Matthews -22
Vinny Damphousse -21
Steve Thomas -20
Mikhail Grabovski -20

Brown, Marner and Nylander could join him.

Reading all the Mirtle articles this really is a special group of rookies they have. Maybe they aren't as far off as we think, but they will be sans a number 1 d most likely.

Daniel Marois, I remember him.  Looking at his stats, this guy scored an incredible 70 goals in his first 2 NHL seasons, and then finishes his career with only 117.  What the hell happened?

If I remember correctly I think injuries started to deter him a little bit.  Also I think he could only score when playing with Damphousse.

A bit of a frightening "What if..."

But have no fear. Matthews flew directly to Dallas and got the day off following the All Star snooze, where he will rejoin the Leafs to face... the Stars.

ixG60: individual Expected Goals (xG) per 60 minutes
xG is a probability model that provides a baseline for how many goals should be scored by the average player against the average goaltender based on the types of shot taken, the shooting distances/locations per handedness, and the situation (score, rebound, off the rush) over the course of 60 minutes at 5-on-5.

Did you see our Canadian Golfer donning #34 at the Phoenix Open to make a huge gesture to Auston.
