I don't know how anyone who uses a racial slur for the sole purpose of attacking someone isn't "truly" racist.moon111 said:Would like to think myself as quite a diverse individual having worked lots of white and blue collar jobs. Definitely the biggest racists I've ever seen don't say anything. Their actions (or-inactions) speak louder then words. And the worst ones are white collar. People who politely don't hire someone based on gender/race/religion, things like that. To me, these people are the real snakes that should be punished. I've been in many blue collar jobs where they don't care who you are, but when things aren't going good, you'll definitely hear about it. And to voice their displeasure at someone, they'll always go for the low hanging fruit. One day you're breaking bread together, the next you're cursing each other out. Quite honestly, have a hard time thinking about a time I've heard any racial slur coming from someone who was truly a racist that would treat anyone different. I don't know if he is, but there's a huge chance, he's just a classless jerk that developed in an environment that traditionally had no room for snowflakes. As the Flames, I would make it real clear the reason for the firing had nothing to do with these allegations. And for those throwing the racist labeled rocks, note that you too are going for the low hanging fruit. The ass might deserve it, but to dig out most racists, you have to watch for their actions, not their words.
I had a co-worker hired with no other qualification other then race. HR's 'Employment Equity'. Although some questioned the employer for this decision, nobody had a problem with this person as an individual. Now as days turn to weeks, weeks turn to months, and months turn to years, everyone realizes that this individual has not lifted a finger and other's are literately feeling their bodies suffering from having to do all the work, people start to get upset. And at that point, nobody cares if someone's feelings get hurt. So words get spoken. Of course what happened is they complained to Human Resources, the hardest worker was fired and they continued to be a 'token' to the political-correctness, getting paid and doing nothing. The work is now being sub-contracted. I listened to one person complain how they were discriminated and the treatment they received on a job-site before and literately that's how everyone gets treated. Do they expect special treatment?Bender said:I don't know how anyone who uses a racial slur for the sole purpose of attacking someone isn't "truly" racist.moon111 said:Would like to think myself as quite a diverse individual having worked lots of white and blue collar jobs. Tru dat, but while we are on the subject of cleaning up workplaces (and this should be on a non-hockey thread), one of the most rancid work environments are in restaurant kitchens. My son is a Chef and the stories he tells me about sexual abuse & innuendo, racism, drug and alcoholism use and a host of other things that happen in these kitchens would simply not be tolerated in other work environments. It's toxic and nothing at all is done. And this is happening in kitchens across Canada and the world. Who is going to clean this up? Easy to get dirt on Peters or any other offender in the NHL and clean it up and it should be cleaned up. Perhaps it will have a filter down effect.Deebo said:moon111 said:I had a co-worker hired with no other qualification other then race. HR's 'Employment Equity'. What the hell does this have to do with anything?
