Phew, don't have to change the thread title.

He "resigned" though.

You?re usually pretty balanced Nik. While this no doubt was a discussion I really don?t think this was as prevalent as you seem to be saying.

I'm not really sure what you're referring to here.

Someone noted on Twitter that Cherry was fired on Remembrance Day and Peters was firesigned on Black Friday and it kind of made my day.

Who the hell was giving coaching workshops in the 70s/80s thinking this is how to get the most out of your players

I remember when Crawford was the heir apparent to Pat Burns here.

I watched Crawford as Coach and Quenneville as player/Asst Coach in St. John's.

They coach how they were coached. Much like parents parenting how they were parented.

That has surely helped them succeed as NHL players

Society as a whole has changed (for the better).  When I was in grade school in the mid 70s, teachers were allowed to beat the students.  I kid you not, corporal punishment in schools was standard practice and I witnessed many kids getting the strap, or a ruler smashed across their hands for misbehaving in school.  This was accepted behavior and even parents were on board with this, "teach those kids a lesson!"  So it's not surprising at all that hockey culture was the same, or in many cases a worse reflection of what was already accepted in society.  Those old coaches all grew up with that and thought it was the norm.

You know how it used to be normal to light up a cigarette at a gas station or nursery, or how seat belts and goalie masks were like ew?

You use to be able to light up anywhere.  Banks, grocery stores, doctors office.

Not that all the other places mentioned would be fine, but I couldn't imagine spending a bunch of hours in a smoke-filled plane. That's nuts.

Just a crack a window

Anyone think Dany Heatley wanted out of Ottawa because Clouston tried to use the Dan Snyder incident as a "motivational" tactic?
