Trevor Smith (hand) on the ice before Leafs morning skate; out since Dec. 17

First time he's been on the ice since the injury. Hard to know what it means since it's his hand that's the problem, but he's still at least a week away from returning I would imagine.

Even when he is ready, do you really think he knocks Orr out.

Nah, you would need a middleweight goon in the league to do that to the once ferocious fighter.

That second part kind of worries me. Also, if Bolland is only going to play a game or two before the break I would much rather just have him come back after the Olympics.

They showed video of him skating yesterday morning during last night's game.

Like... recent video? I was pretty sure Carlyle said they weren't even getting the boot in until today.

The video was from yesterday morning. There were also a few reports on twitter from the guys that are at the Leafs practices that he was out on the ice skating before the team started practice.

EDIT: At least, I'm pretty sure it was him.

Are you thinking of Smith? I know he skated before practice.

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure it was Bolland. Though, it could have just been the guys on LeafsTV identifying the player wrong.

I think it was Smith. There were a few beat reporters on twitter saying that Smith skated before practice but nothing about Bolland. Searching Bolland's name on my feed brings up what we've heard before: he'll start skating Thursday.

I seen the clip I think. Wasn't he shown skating slowly in circles? Looked pretty awkward. I hope he gains momentum and comes back soon.

Toronto Maple Leafs centre David Bolland is expected to resume skating with the rest of the team on Thursday, taking another step toward returning from the ankle injury that has kept him out of the lineup for more than two months.

?He?s travelled to Montreal to have a new boot specifically designed to relieve the pressure around where his injury, the incision, the repair, was done,? Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said Sunday. ?And that boot is supposed to be made available to us after the weekend.?

The report is that he'll start skating with the team on Thursday. Generally, guys skate on their own for a little while before they skate with the team.

Fair enough. Still, I'm not sure why he'd be skating without that boot. Even if it was just a light skate. I didn't catch last night's game, do you remember when they showed the clip? I'm just curious to see it.

It might have been during the 2nd intermission. I'm not sure. They were talking about Bolland coming back to practice soon and then they showed a clip of a Leaf skating alone.

Yeah you're right it was Bolland. Certainly didn't look comfortable at all though.

Neither did I, but, clearly, unlike Dreger tells us, he has put his skates on already.

You're also right. There is NO way that Bolland could step in and skate with the team based on that video evidence.

He did not look as bad as I expected.
