Black & Blue Leafs - Injury Report

Reimer shouldn't be dealt for just a 2nd in the summer, regardless of whether he asks for a trade or not.  He's worth more than that, especially if a team thinks he will be their starter.

Remember Philly got next to nothing for Bobrovsky, goalie prices can be underwhelming.

Well, to be fair Bobrovsky was coming off a terrible year.  Over 3 GA and .899 save %.

The value of goalies can be all over the map.  Just look at Simeon Varlamov - Colorado dealt a (really high) first and second for him.  Cory Schneider got a high first, too.

And, um, there's the case of Andrew Raycroft, but let's leave that one alone.

But as Raycroft would remind us, he had 37 wins, 37 WINS! /s

But Raycrap had to play a truckload of games to obtain that number of wins.  If Brodeur in his prime played that many games, he would have had close to 50 wins, and an average goalie would have had 40+ wins.  Those extra 6 to 10 points made the difference between not making the playoffs and making the playoffs.

As per Jonas Siegel:

Lupul will have knee surgery. Effectively done for the remainder of the regular season.

Three week recovery from surgery to meniscus for Lupul.

LHF jumps off the roof......

and LupulBear is one unhappy camper too.....

Raycroft played 72 games that season.  Brodeur in his prime pretty much played 70+ every season: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=587/

For 12 seasons between 1996 and 1998 he averaged 73 games per season.

Lupul out http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/2014/04/07/maple_leafs_joffrey_lupul_out_for_the_season.html    and the beat goes on and the beat goes on.

Surgery for Bernier:

@renlavoietva

#mapleleafs Jonathan Bernier will have a surgery for a sports hernia in a few days. 2 to 3 weeks rehab for the Leafs goaltender. #tvasports

That explains his failed comeback after the losing streak, in which he still managed to hold off the Bruins long enough for Reimer to come in and squeeze out the victory.

THE CANADIAN PRESS
TORONTO ? Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia.
He says he will have the operation Wednesday and be ready in time for training camp in September.
Bernier missed five games in March due to the injury.
He then aggravated the problem April 3 against the Boston Bruins and finished the season on the sidelines.

Is this suggesting that the sprained MCL didn't happen?

Just a bit more on a couple injuries:

Defenceman Carl Gunnarsson, who missed the last game with his ongoing hip-related problem, might need minor corrective surgery in the off-season.

?We?re not sure yet,? general manager Dave Nonis said Monday. ?He needs further examination.?

Gunnarsson plays 19-plus minutes a night as Dion Phaneuf?s partner, but stuck it out for 80 games this year and wound up a plus-12. First-line left winger James van Riemsdyk also alluded to being slowed in March and April, during which the whole line with Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak had just 22 points.

?I?d rather not get into specifics,? said van Riemsdyk, other than classifying them as nagging injuries. ?With the schedule as it was with the Olympics (he and Kessel did double duty) it happens. Towards the end of the year, things start to hamper you. But it?s your job to be ready to go.?

Man, that hip has been bothering Gunnar for over a year now. It didn't seem like it effected him as much this season as it did last, but he still didn't seem right.
