Brendan Shanahan to be named president of Maple Leafs

I said it after the press conference (maybe not here but elsewhere) and I will say it again after that Lieweke interview... Nonis is staying.

Yeah. I think anyone who expected Nonis to be gone was in for a rude awakening there. I suspect a few other front office people might be relieved of their duties or re-assigned, but, I'm confident in saying that Nonis is safe for at least the upcoming season.

My hope is that next year brings:
1 - A new head of professional scouting
2 - Changes in the amateur scouting ranks
3 - Claude Loiselle's head
4 - Carlyle's head
5 - We can ignore Fletcher but only because I don't think he actually does anything anymore...if he is still providing advice, he should move over to Minnesota.

Never mind the next year - I'd like to see all these things happen before the draft.

Did anyone honestly believe Nonis would be fired? He just signed a contract extension. Lieweke's probably not going to make the rookie mistake of extending a GM only to fire him after a late season collapse.

Well, except it wouldn't be Leiweke firing him. It would, I think the rationale goes, be on Shanahan and I think it's always fair to wonder if someone incoming as President wants to bring in their own people.

Shanahan claims to not have 'his own people'. :D

Three weeks have passed since Shanny came on board, and nary a peep from him. I wonder what the hold up is?

Shanahan is new to the team and new to the job. He obviously wanted more familiarity with those things before making any announcements.

Dont forget the tear down of the Gardiner Express Way and the revitalization of the lakeshore.

Sunday was int'l star wars day, and yesterday was cinqo de maio so you know you cant make any decisions on those days.

(im just piling on, I want Shanny to take as long as he needs as long as he doesn't screw up)

You know, the more I think about it, the more I like the fact that Shanny is taking his time with this. He wants to get his first few moves right and set the tone for how his tenure will go here in Toronto.

As restless as we all are for some news, how can he be criticized for not rushing through this process? (Providing, of course, that he doesn't miss out on any opportunities in doing so)

I don't think that particular question is a 'loaded' one. You either think Shanny is taking too long with this process or you do not. I'd rather he take the time he needs and get this right, than rush through it to appease the media and fans.

But clearly implicit in the criticism is that a month is more than enough time to make the decision that, to some, is screamingly obvious. He's not being criticized for "not rushing", he's being criticized for taking longer than what people feel is necessary to the detriment of the situation.

Perhaps that knee surgery Shanny had nicked the nerve that controls his knee-jerk reaction.  Without that he can't possibly run the Leafs, and his contract should be immediately bought out.
