Team Canada -- U18 World Hockey Championships Gold Medallists, thus ending a four year drought (the U.S. had won the last four).  Final score:  Canada 3  USA 2.

Canard's Connor MacDavid with 14 points was named tournament MVP.

They were saying the same thing about Nathan MacKinnon 2 years ago, that he was the "next Crosby".  It's tough to say whether a 16 year old will turn into the next mega-superstar.  Let's see where this kid is at when he's 18.  MacKinnon is still seen as an impact player, but all the "Crosby" talk has died down.

I remember the comparison that was heaped on MacKinnon, and, now on MacDavid. Perhaps it is a bit too early to begin the accolades, but then again, MacDavid may already be termed much more talented than MacKinnon. 

There has to be a reason why Crosby said  that MacDavid reminds him of himself.  :)
 
Team Canada wins it's sixth straight Ivan Hlinka gold medal, with a convincing 4-0 victory over the U.S., in this U-18 International tournament. 

Behind the solid netminding of Julio Billia, Canada got goals from Michael Dal Colle,  Brendan Lemieux, Aaron Ekblad and Jason Hawryluk.  Canadian forward Spencer Watson led the tournament with 10 points.

Tournament took place in Slovakia and Czech Republic.

Sixteen year old Acadie-Bathurst & QMJHL prospect Jordan Boyd collapses and dies after team tryout skate.

Only the second time in thirty years a hockey tragedy has happened in the history of the QMJHL. The news left many junior players shaken.

Scary situation...Montreal prospect Tim Bozon, (chosen in the third round of the 2012 draft), who toils for the Kootenay Ice, has reportedly contracted "a form of  acute bacterial meningitis" called Neisseria Meningitis which is "highly contagious".

Teammates, including the opposition team the Saskatoon Blades (which were his last oponents) are all taking antibiotics as precaution.

Very scary..similar to what happened to Jamie McLennan while in the NHL he came down with bacterial meningitis but thankfully recovered after a scary day of intensive care.  Hope this kid is ok.

The final is Saturday (today), 

The U.S  and .Sweden also -face-off in the  bronze medal game.

Make it seven for Canada!  Team Canada defeated the Czech Republic 6-2 at the U-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Hockey Tournament, thus winning the Gold for the seventh straight year.

Canada got goals by Crouse, Strome, and Konecny to name a few, as Canada outscored all opponents in the tournament 32-10.

In other tournament news, Team USA defeated Team Sweden 5-4 in OT  to win the Bronze.
