Future Prospects/Draftees

McDavid ahead of Crosby in development:

Skating is what separates him (from Crosby). Crosby?s greatest asset is his strength on his skates. His balance makes him impossible to push off his skates. McDavid has that same strength but he?s even harder to push off the puck because he?s moving faster."

?McDavid is having at least as big an impact in Erie as Crosby did in Rimouski, maybe bigger,? another scouting director says. ?The support around them would be comparable but McDavid is doing it in a stronger, deeper league.

For the first-time ever, the  2016 NHL Entry Draft may not feature any Canadian-born players.

Jakob Chychrun is the lone "Canadian" on the list, so far. Chychrun, a dual citizen, (born in the U.S., and played hockey his early years there), was cut from Team Canada's  World Junior roster (WJHC 2016).  Chohyrun currently plays for the OHL's Sarnia Sting.

The 2016 WJHC has been busting with plenty of talent, none the least of which pits #l draft pick Auston Matthews of the U.S. against Finland's  challenger Jesse Puljujarvi, the leading scorer at these World Juniors.

Matthews' teammate on Team USA,  Matthew Tkaohuk, is another draft choice drawing attention.  As is Patrik Laine of Finland.

You mean in the top 5, not the whole draft.

No not the whole draft, just the top ten (or five) in the order of selections.

Chychrun, Dubois and Bean are all Canadian and all project to be selected in the top 10.

Team USA routed Team Canada 10-3 in the IIHF u18 Men's World Hockey Championship to take the Bronze.

It was the largest lopsided score in a Bronze medal game in the tournament's history.  The U.S, scored six goals in the first period alone.  That pretty well summed up the entire game right then and there.

The Canadians were embarrassed and contended that they were not prepared.  Hmm.  That doesn't sound quite right, but it was unfortunately true.

"We just weren?t prepared," said Canadian captain and tournament scoring leader Tyler Jost. "We talked after the loss against Sweden about shelving things, putting it behind us and looking forward to today. We had a really bad first. In the second and third we picked it up. But when it came down to it, we weren?t prepared."
