Game 1 - Habs @ Leafs - Thursday Oct 6th 2011 - 19:00 EST - 2-0 Win

That's a pretty pitiful bunch of forwards, particularly on a team as close to the cap as we are.  Hope Reimer looks good...

What's your problem?

Burke's going with the ever effective 2 2nd lines and 2 4th lines model ;)

my NHL 12 forward group is much, much better. This lineup is too depressing to look at!

The defence in interested to see play though, they look really good... on paper.... I feel like I've said all this before....

ah ffs here we go again..

Loving the optimism around here. It's just so refreshing. ::)

Yeah, I hate to be a wet blanket on opening day.  But at the same time I have to admit I don't have that tingle of excitement I used to get for the opener.  Maybe I'll rev up as game time approaches and I see the bagpipers out there on the ice....

It's hard to not be jaded about this team. I figure if I just expect to miss the playoffs, it will be a refreshing surprise when they actually make it one of these years.  :P

I'm still having difficulty figuring out why some would have the expectation that they would have made the playoffs in any of the last 3 years. I mean, everybody is writing off Edmonton, Ottawa, Florida and the like, who are kind of in the same position as the Leafs have been in, most of the past few years, but yet, they were supposed to make it.

Maybe it was Burke saying that he was going to fast track it, or that he expected them to compete for one? I still don't really get it, as I was hopeful, but never really set myself up for it and am happy that it's been improving by the year.

I'm gonna go out and say this right now:

We're accustomed to getting trashed by the media that I think we can't see the forest for the trees anymore. The team isn't amazing, but it isn't junk. There's potential going both ways here, so why not hope for success than shelter yourself from disappointment by being negative?

This is odd to me as this is probably the best team we've had post-lockout. Why were you excited for the last five years?

Well thanks to the TV rights mess up in Europe, esp the UK, I hope to find some kind of stream online so I can catch this.

Otherwise it's back to AM640 like the olden days! But that isn't quite the same..

I can't believe I get to be all excited about the Leafs for 3 days, then I have to wait a week for their 3rd game.

Just think of all the wonderful nit picking we'll be able to do! Hooray for over analyzing!

And with that forward lineup, I think there is going to be a lot of overanalyzing to do!

We are going to need the defense to chip in a goal or two or Price to break a leg to have much of a chance in this game.

Pretty much.  Even if everyone was in the lineup and healthy, the forwards are a pretty suspect bunch after Mac/Grabs/Kuli.

Kessel and Lupul are suspect?

Man I hate the Habs, we need to win tonight so I can rub it in the faces of some Habs fans I know.

I can't explain it.  I just don't have that spark this year.  I'll still be watching regularly, though.

Very.

Sarcasm? At least on the Kessel front?

Not at all.  Kessel hasn't yet proven to me that he brings more than streaky goal scoring to the team.  If he were a second-liner on a Cup challenger, that would be OK.  On our team, he needs to do more, like play responsible defense, create space for linemates to excel, etc.  He was, to be honest, more well-rounded last year than I expected at the beginning.  But to me he's still hasn't proven himself to be a topflight guy.  I hope he takes that step this year.

Every scorer is streaky, even Almo was streaky. I think we should let the season play out for a few games before we dump on our team.
