Game 16 - Toronto Maple Leafs @ St Louis Blues W3-2

Nice save by Scrivens...and yet another PK play where Komisarek sits in front of the net and allows a guy free pass at point-blank shots.  For a guy with no offensive ability whatsoever, he plays some terrible hockey in front of the net.

He's still on pace for 31 pts on the year. He may have improved his +/- but he's had anything but a good season so far.

He was on pace for 50-60 before he was bumped from to the 3rd line by Connolly.  A cut in PP and ice time combined with ice cold wingers like Lombardi and Frattin what can you expect.

True although it's not that hard to get 2nd assists when centering a ridiculously hot Kessel/Lupul line either.

I'd like to see more from the guy is all. If he can only play with world beaters then I question his true value.

How about 2 assists on the PP this period?  ;)  He seems to mesh very well with Lupul and Kessel, both shooters with a nose for the net.

I agree there is room for improvement in his offense but he has also made some decent defensive plays while skating on the top line.

I don't think he's terrible, at all. It's just his actual spot on this team is as the #3 center, where he's shown an inability to produce.

I'm all for him getting all kinds of points with Lupul and Kessel, but I don't think is the hardest gig in the world is all.

Scrivy looked good on the PK. Crazy stat they showed with the Leafs PK being 12% better when Reimer is in net. Please come back soon James.

Wow, how has Columbus not fired their coach?  That goal they just showed was ugly.  Kane had a good 5 seconds to casually skate into the zone and score on that breakaway.  That is a team that has given up less than a quarter of the way through the season.

I guess they've clung to the having key players injured/suspended excuse for now, but, if Arniel lasts past the weekend, I'll be shocked.

No kidding the TSN guy said they play a 1-3-1 and I'm thinking oh good they just need to play the diamond and it will be simple 1 on 1 coverage in front of the net.  It started that way but then within seconds Komi wandered off....  I don't get it maybe he needs keep one hand on the net so he doesn't forget where it is.

Connolly/Bozak... We're basically paying 6.25 mil for 1st line center production. Together, it's not great but not awful.

FIXED

Scrivens looking okay I guess...

Well he hasn't let in a goal...

Which is good, but the Leafs played a strong period.  Until that shot on the PK there, he didn't have to do anything.  The last two games have yielded bad goals on easy saves but I'm not going to comment too much on Scrivens until I see him make a few more difficult saves (not impossible saves).  He turned a couple of nothing shots into bad rebounds that the Leafs covered up for.

What's Ward talking about? Liles didn't release it quickly and "not let the goalie get across." He bobbled the bad pass and shot it past the goalie on the far side.

Leafs really settled down nicely after a rough looking couple minutes to start the game - which, on the road, is almost to be expected.

What?

Probalby meant Connolly+Bozak = "1st line centre" 1G 11A in 20 games.  Not exactly what I want to see between those two.

What?

It's one guy or the other in that spot... Bonnolly. Conzak... Whatever.

Ok... Maybe right now, but it's not like Connolly is going to be injured forever, unless you're a pessimist.
