Game 50: Leafs @ Pens, 7:00pm

The goal Malkin got to tie the game with 6 seconds left was a fluke goal.  Do that 20 other times and it goes off the glass on the other side and game over.  This happens in hockey.  Like the other night when Grabovski shoot the puck around the glass, hits a stanction and goes right to an Islander player in front of the net.  There is nothing you can do about it.

oh definitely...lots had to go right for the pens to pull this off..front and center was that disallowed goal in the first period ....still it's hard to watch a team blow a 3 goal lead in the third ... and despite how dramatic some are being ..it's not like it hasn't happened to other teams ...some better than the leafs ...still it stings ... i hope they're able to bounce back ..because tomorrow is coming quickly

Really annoying, need to just put this behind us and move on, a lot of positives to be had.  The Monster looked weak on one or two, but also had some amazing saves, so we'll see what he produces going forward.

Haven't read the thread yet, just back from the bar. Two things, which I'm sure have been said.

1. That goaltender interference call was ridiculous. I'm not sure I can recall a worse call all year; correct me if I'm wrong, but you can overturn a goal on goaltender interference by going upstairs, so why not call it a goal initially if it's questionable and then go upstairs? I'm probably wrong but I seem to recall a couple goals overturned in Detroit games because of Holmstrom's interference. Anyway, that was awful.

2. If Mikhail Grobovski is traded, I'll lose all faith in humanity.

Wasn't the shoot around by Grabs versus NY that went straight to the slot also one of those flukes? It always seems to happen to us.

Pittsburgh isn't a bad club and have been doing good lately.  There's allot of positives to take away from this game.  Think the biggest problem is the players not recognizing when they've lost their zone.  Sometimes you have to collapse.

I was impressed with the Leafs speed, but, Malkin had other plans..let's hope for a winning result tonight!

GO LEAFS GO!!

Agreed.

The stars just aligned to make sure the Leafs lost this game. They easily could (should) have been up 5-0 in the second (maybe 6-0 if that non goal had counted) but because Schenn for some reason cant figure out tap ins and is hitting the post and another guy hit the post and Kulemin ahd a puck bounce over his stick etc....

At least a point was gained but dammit, Pittsburgh had no business being in that game.

The Leafs have 15 home games and 18 road game remaining, beginning tonight. The two teams hook up again Wednesday at Air Canada Centre.
Wilson knows his neck is on the line, but it doesn't faze him in the least.
"It feels the same as it always has been," Wilson said. "I've been in this position as a coach a number of times before with other teams where you've got to mount a push and I've usually been pretty good at it. This is the time of year where all the seeds you have planted during the season, you hope they start to bear fruit. I think the last week or 10 days we've done some things really well and now we're going to see if we can continue it for 33 games."

I can't believe after that disappointment last night the Leafs moved up to 8th.  I guess perspective is everything.  Leafs can catch Ottawa, need to win tonight though.

Damn, this one still stings the morning after.

We just played SO well for 50 minutes... had a 4-1 lead... hit 2 posts (Grabs and Schenn), had another goal dissallowed that shouldn't have been, etc.  We really deserved this one.  Not to mention Malkins goal was going 5 feet wide and somehow bounced off his chest into the net.  We never seem to catch those breaks.

It's too bad- I thought we played a fantastic game for 50 minutes...  hopefully they can play like that tonight.  You can't do much about bounces like the Malkin goal.

The couple of brain farts on goals 2 and 3 didn't help either.  Gardiner blows a tire and then inadvertently puts the puck right on Sullivan's stick for the nice breakaway (which Gustavsson should have had anyway), and then a comedy of errors on the 3rd goal starting with a bad pass from Schenn and leading to another Gustavsson mistake where he could have covered the puck right before the goal.

I had this music going through my head seeing that develop:

Oh no doubt... but 6 seconds left, 5 feet wide, off someones chest?  The hockey gods must be laughing.  I still can't get over that one.  Thats the perfect storm bottled up.

I thought Gus played fairly well for the most part, but I agree the 3rd goal had a bad odour to it.  How he didn't manage to cover that was a little surprising.

It's nice though that the KGM line seems to have returned.  Hopefully they can keep that up.  Once we get that big #1 center, our top 6 should be in decent shape ;)

Except all signs point to one or two members of that KGM line going out the door in a trade to land that big #1 centre.

I'm going on the Schenn/Kadri/Colborne/Frattin/1st line of thinking (and hoping).

The third goal last night killed me watching it in replay.  Gustavsson could've just slammed his glove on it and smothered it but he looked like a baby trying to pick up a watermelon seed with two fingers.  I'm tired of the shootout too.  I know teams used to trap to preserve the point in OT but Let them go 4 on 4 for five minutes and if that doesn't solve it get rid of the shootout and let them play another 5 minutes 3 on 3 with forwards only.  That's sure to produce a goal and would be way more exiting than a shootout.  If no one scores then they both get a point.  But a loss means no points.
