Game 60. Devs versus Leavs. Criticality.

After a pretty good start to the 3rd, we've spent the last 10 minutes getting outworked.  Can't get it out, can't get it deep.

Gustavsson gets the goat of the game treatment if the Leafs can't at least take a point but man has he ever stepped it up in the 3rd period to bail out a number of horrendous defensive plays.  These aren't even scoring chances coming because the Leafs are pressing, it's sloppy defensive play and dumb pinches.

I'm trying to figure out if the Leafs have forgotten how to break up passing lanes, and getting some interference without taking a penalty their dancing like butterfly's out there.
What happened to a few checks to set-up the next line etc...

You know gritty hockey.

Late posting this but on that 3 on 1 on Gus or whatever it was when Dion fell down, the replay from Gus' end clearly show Dion falling and then laying there on the ice instead of scrambling to his feet to get back and help. Good effort Captain.

So Clarkson gets to knock Gus down in the blue paint after the puck is long gone from the crease.  Yep, good job Refs.  That's at least the 3rd time Gus has been hit in the crease.

Kessel did the same and wasn't able to get out of the zone and put a promising play offside.

Let's face it: Overall, Phaneuf is a liability.  You can't have your captain being a liability.

Which I don't understand because Wilson said we had such a great practice yesterday working on this stuff.

He's not overall a liability - he is prone to defensive gaffes, but he plays so many minutes that if he was overall a liability things would be so much worse.

I love this speed boost at the end of losing games, but someone should really ask Wilson why they never seem to be able to start games with this kind of intensity.

They did... they were pretty good in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Shouldn't someone ask the players as well?
