Is Troy Bodie playing with the Marlies? Otherwise, I'm not sure why we signed a player like that when we're short on cap dollars.

He's likely Marlie bound, yeah, but, he could also nap a 4th line spot in camp. The team has plenty of cap room to add a few guys like this on contracts near the league minimum. They have about $16M in usable space, as long as a little more than $6M ends up in the AHL.

Now I think you're confusing me. Are you talking about that rule where a player that gets buried has to make under 900k or whatever for it not to count against the cap?

Do we even have 6 million worth of those guys?

EDIT: You're also adding the 10% overage right?

Teams are allowed to exceed the cap by 10% until 24 hours before the regular season begins. So, that means, on top of the ~$9.7M in regular season cap space the Leafs have available, they have an addition $6.4M to play with in terms of signing depth guys like Bodie or add other guys and figure out how to make it work under the cap later. The cap isn't really a significant issue for the team for the next couple months, really. THey can exceed it and still have plenty of time to figure out a way to get under by the time the season starts. Signing a handful of guys at near the league minimum isn't going to cause issues elsewhere.

Fair enough, but I wish they would sign the main guys so I can enjoy my summer. And trade JML to Colorado or Edmonton already.

I think you're in for a rough stretch. Something tells me that the Kadri negotiations will take him just about to the brink. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get signed until the eve of training camp or even later.

*ahem*

I said, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't sign until the last possible moment.

(alright, let's see if that works)

With any luck... Man I hope you're wrong about that.

Eh, I get it from a "I want everything to get done" standpoint but practically I don't think it matters much. It's what Norris Trophy winner PK Subban did and that seemed to work out pretty well for all involved.

TORONTO, ON, July 10, 2013 ? Organizers of the 2013 Honda Indy Toronto are pleased to announce that newly acquired Toronto Maple Leafs players Dave Bolland and David Clarkson will serve as the Grand Marshals for 2inTO, the two INDYCAR races taking place during the event weekend, July 12-14.

The local natives of Mimico will perform the standard Grand Marshal duties that include giving the famous ?drivers, start your engines? command to start the afternoon races: Bolland on Saturday, July 13 and Clarkson on Sunday, July 14. They will also meet the INDYCAR drivers, tour the INDYCAR paddocks and will participate in the Drivers Parades for each respective race.

"We are thrilled to have Dave and David as the grand marshals of our event," said Charlie Johnstone, President of the Honda Indy Toronto. "The Honda Indy is Toronto's event, so it's only fitting for two Toronto-natives and members of Leafs Nation to make the famous call to start the races."

Bolland is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion, most recently scoring the winning goal for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2013 Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins just last month. Scoring in the final minute of the game, he set a new record for the latest Stanley Cup-winning goal scored in regulation time. In 2012, he officially launched the Dave Bolland Foundation to help empower youth from marginalized communities in shaping their futures for success.

Clarkson has a strong connection to the event and racing. At the 2012 Honda Indy Toronto, he announced a partnership between his charity, Clarky?s Kids, and the Graham Rahal Foundation, both of which raise funds to help chronically ill children and their families. This year, the Dale Coyne Racing No. 19 piloted by Justin Wilson, 2005 winner on the streets of Toronto, will carry the Clarky's Corner logo on race day in support of the charity 's fundraising efforts. Clarky's Corner Children's Charities is an umbrella foundation recently launched in Toronto to allocate funds to numerous initiatives with the goal of improving the lives of kids and their families.

Just crap coming from a has been. Although Edm would have to pay a big price for him, and I think if they did want him they have the parts to offer us. A first line Center would be a starting price.

If that happens, players won't want to get married anymore while being a Leaf, first Grabo, then Phaneuf haha

Seriously though, I hope he isn't traded, a lot of people give him grief, but he would leave a big hole to fill if traded, one which wouldn't be filled this summer, backwards move.

Come on. Does this really warrant a "might be on his way out"? Watters, who is a dubious source, isn't claiming that there have been talks or that Toronto wants to move him or anything other than Edmonton might want him.

So let's say Watters has not lost his mind, as the public perceives he has, what would the Leafs be able to command in return from Edmonton?

Its been said that the Oilers have been looking for a veteran strong defenceman..

With his contract I would guess not much.

Other than their big-4 forwards, there really isn't much there to be interested in. Hall and Eberle likely aren't going anywhere because of their contracts. RNH is the best centre in the organization so he isn't going anywhere. There's been talk ever since he was drafted that Yakupov could be trade bait. But I still don't see Edmonton going for it since Phaneuf is a year away from being a UFA.

It also really doesn't make sense for Toronto to trade their best defenseman for another winger.  In the long run, Phaneuf for Yakupov would benefit Toronto due to the age difference.  In the short run, the team is a mess.  I suppose if it were to happen, I'd think about ways I could trade Bozak and Kessel for a top defender like maybe a shea weber but now we'd be veering off in to complete fantasy land (if we weren't there already).
