I don't know how other folks feel about Kulemin but I've completely lost confidence in him being a viable top 6 forward. Now, having said that, I think he's got the skills to be a dynamite 3rd line forward (and has shown it.) He's so solid defensively and can generate a a little bit of offence on the forcheck but I'd be shocked if he ever gets close to 30 goals again.

EDIT: and don't get me started on Mac... I hope he's a gonner at or before the deadline.

Yeah I've been waiting for a while for him to show that 30 goal season wasn't a fluke.  He is just not that naturally skilled, plain and simple.  If he wants to score goals he needs to go to the net like JVR.

I now marvel at how he even pulled out that 30 goal season in the first place.  His ice-time must have been bordering on ridiculous or something. Have to look it up.

But not because of his skill. He is just missing a gear IMO. It may be a personality thing. I have never seen the guy even face cameras. He may be still adjusting to life in the NHL, to be honest.

You need swagger to score. You just do. A lot of that comes from confidence and comfort with your surroundings.  Kulemin is certainly a different guy than he was when he came in 4 years ago, but he still doesn't exude that confidence that one needs to score consistently.

Kuly stopped crashing the net. Pure and simple.

He has a solid defensive game and, If his center would wake up you would  see his offensive game come to life, like it did in his home land.

When he scored 30 goals, he had a 17.3 shooting percentage. That wasn't sustainable for sure. He's shot at a similar rate during his career (just over 2 shots per game,) but I'd really like to see him shoot more. He's got a strong wrist shot from about 20 feet out.

Carlye should start looking at where the real cancer is on this team.  Its called lack of skilled defensemen.  Stop harping on Carbo and try to do something with that big pylon out there (-10) that wears the "C".  And stop playing him against the opposing teams top lines.  Its an embrassment to watch!!

Oh good, you used +/- for your argument.

IMO, Phaneuf needs a solid, experienced defensive d-man partner who can take more of the brunt of the duties on his pairing vs. Phaneuf having to be that guy all the time, paired with the inexperienced rookies.  Dion really has never been built to be the shutdown defender even though he's cast in the role and like it or not, he's the most capable the Leafs have of doing it vs. the best on the other teams.  He had that partner in Calgary... he needs one here too.

The Leafs this year are an embarrassing 23rd at .563.

Behindthenet has him facing the 5th toughest competition among D in the league - and he's been doing it with a rotation of AHL players.

Its more than a little disturbing that you can call that up that quickly.
