Goaltending conundrum

moon111 said:
I don't think Vancouver has any good goalie prospects.  If they get rid of a goalie, they'll want one back.

I saw your other post about this first, but like I said there that's not really true. They have 24-year old Eddie Lack, who looks like a very promising young goalie.

I bet Luongo ends up in Chicago. Vancouver won't deal with Burke.

Also, Jake Gardiner has played in 94 games so far in his first season as a pro.

I really don't see Vancouver sending a high-end starting goalie to one of their biggest conference rivals.

Good point, but where does he go then?

Remember, Gillies has publically announced that Luongo wants out of Vancouver. You've seen what their fanbase is like and how they feel about the Leafs.

Luongo is getting dealt. It won't be to Toronto.

That's not what Gillis has said at all. He confirmed that Luongo would be willing to consider waiving his NTC if the team approached him. That's as far as he or Luongo have gone. Luongo being moved seems like the likelihood, but it's far from a guarantee, and, if he is, the Leafs are as likely a destination as any. In fact, with the way things have been playing out, Toronto might be the only team with enough interest to get a deal done - whether Nyucks and Leaf fans like it or not.

Agreed. Should be an interesting month ahead.

I think the confusion is that Vigneault, not Gillis, said Luongo wanted "a fresh start". He still said the organization would act in their best interests though.

Well, there's some issues there as well. That particular interview was conducted in French, and the translations we've been seeing are possibly a misinterpretation of what Vingeault actually meant. I haven't heard his actual statements, so, I don't know for sure.

No, I think Roberto got cast aside by his team, in the playoffs when everybody was watching, and I don't imagine he was very happy about that.

Like any GM who's bounced around a bit, Burke carries some baggage. He won't be inking any deals with Vancouver (or Edmonton).

Burke's a professional. If there's a deal that he thinks will make his team better, it doesn't matter who is on the other end.

Well sure. Even in English a "fresh start" wouldn't necessarily mean a trade.

Yeah, I don't see Burke sitting in the driver's seat on the Luongo deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if MLSE has Burke on a really short leash. Pick fifth, see what your second coach can do for you, play Reimer/Scrivens, deal your expiring contacts at the trade deadline.

Tha seems unlikely considering the upcoming ownership shift.

I kind of doubt any board will be dictating to him like that. I mean, picking 5th and letting your newly hired coach do his job seem pretty logical anyways but dictating either that or who plays net and what contracts to move for practically any reason seems unlikely.

Rogers and Bell and Burke! All the biggest bastards together at last!

A short leash or a walk off the plank? I don't think so.
