Ben Smith is on the IR. Byron Froese got the call up.

Well, Babcock is predictable.

Froese has 17 pts (12/5) in 26 games. Most recently, he's been centering Lindberg and a mix of Timashov/Kapanen/C. Smith in a scoring line.

I'm anxious to see the 2nd go around of Leipsic and Kapanen with the Leafs.  I guess that won't happen until after the trade deadline if guys like JVR/Komarov/Bozak are gone.

Not related to this thread, but a quick peek at the stats doesn't make me feel great about Lindberg/Timashov/Rychel/Johnsson.

For Timashov and Johnsson, it should be noted that they are rookies this season.
For Lindberg, his game is more defensive-minded.
I nothing Rychel.

The Marlies also have a struggle with icing consistent line-ups due to the glut of players on the uncapped rosters and the AHL schedule tends to be rather spaced out.

They're all also minor prospects. I'm not sure how excited we should have been for 3rd, 5th and 7th round draft picks to begin with.

ya know its interesting to me the guy that sticks out in my mind is rychel.  He whined in columbus about not getting a shot but man has he done nothing.  Too bad too cause he was a really good jr player too.  I was hoping he might be a good power forward type but is looking more and more like a bust.

Both have minor injuries and Dubas will have no part in yo-yo opportunities for real prospects.

When skill guys get the all now, they want it to be for good.

Babcock says Ben Smith is "skating good." Schedule to get pins inserted during hand surgery removed on Thursday. Hasn't played since Dec 17

Babcock on Smith: "We could obviously really use him. He's a diligent pro and does things right." #Leafs

Smith update. Doesn't sound like the idea that Smith has lost his spot in the line-up is going to come to fruition.

Babcock's comment that the Leafs "could obviously really use him" is interesting since they're 8-2-1 since he went down.

Yeah, no thanks to the 4th line though.  Freddy the Goat sports a 38% CF%.  Smith's 45% looks quite rosy in comparison.  His CA60 on the PK and Faceoff percentages are also better.  Small sample size for the Goat, but he's not ready to be our 4th line center just yet.
