Injury Thread / Lou's Corner

Wouldn't it make more sense for the NHL to provide a doctor on retainer for each NHL game?  Since they have this concussion protocol to follow, wouldn't they want their own NHL-assigned doctor there as opposed to either of the team's doctor to make the call?

I see where you're coming from, but, I don't think too many doctors are going to be their reputation, and, in some situations, their career, on the line so the team they sometimes work for and maybe support can win a game. Any worthwhile doctor is going to give the most appropriate medical advice, first and foremost.

Also even if we did believe that doctors in this position may have some sort of bias towards the entity that is paying them, given what's come out in the past few years (and even very recently), I'm not sure a NHL-assigned doctor would be any more appropriate than a team-assigned one.

But yeah, I don't have a problem with a Sabres doctor pulling a Leafs player in a TOR-BUF game. Heck I wouldn't care if a Canadiens doctor pulled a Leafs player in a TOR-BUF game. The doctors only care about the players well being, not wins or losses.

I know they're very tight lipped ..but is anything known about soshnikov?  i know he's not one of the top nine but I feel like they made it out like his injury was minor when it happened and he never came back.  I also think our pk has suffered a little without him.

Mirtle mentioned on the latest Athletic podcast that he is still hurt, he's seen him around and he "isn't ready to go".

Also there was a window there where we played Boston and Chicago and that fourth line with Soshnikov was bangin' all over the place. He'd really come in handy for the coming war in Washington.

Zaitsev skated today for the first time since his injury:

He would be a huge upgrade over Marincin.  Marincin looked tentative in game 1 and I saw him miss at least one pass when the leafs were controlling the zone and it led to several scoring chances for Washington.

If Fehr comes back you know it is Kapanen who comes out and not Martin so I don't really care for this.

Yeah, you could pretty much tell by his expression when it happened that that was a season-ender. Here's hoping he gets back to 100% in the offseason.

I know he was certainly a favourite whipping boy around here for much of the season, but he really played well and was a big asset over the last couple months in particular. It'll be really interesting to see how free agency treats him.

He got better as things went on. A real shame. He took a lot of deserved criticism but some of it was not.

Agreed he played a lot better in the last while. Hate to see a tough man in that much pain, I am sure it was excruciating.  Hope all good things for him in his recovery.

He said been solid & it was heartbreaking to watch. My daughter cringed at the replays. She injured her knee a few years ago with a similar play. Hope he recovers well.
