Any thoughts on what happens with these teams?  I would imagine/hope Edmonton takes off a bit after McDavid returns and gets back to speed. Toronto, I would imagine gets worse with (hopefully) a deadline sell-off, perhaps to include their best goalie, James Reimer. And the 3 Cs in the middle are all a bit of a mess so who knows what happens with them. Maybe Staal is traded?

In the end I think it's the Leafs and 'Canes fighting for last place in the spring.

BTW, nice job by the tank having a ROW of 6 at the 1/3 mark of the season. That is impressive.

So basically my take away from the first 3 chunks is that Bernier stinks.

Bernier's play was largely unimpressive against the Lightning (on his first game back since his Marlies conditioning stint).  He definitely doesn't give the impression he wants the #1 job as Leafs premier netminder.

Hurry up, James, get better!

I honestly don't understand this line of thinking. Is Nick Spaling not a number 1 centre because he doesn't want it enough?

Bernier's struggles might partly be on the mental side of his game, but it isn't because he's perfectly content being a mediocre goalie.

I wish I could believe this is sustainable for Reimer. With our luck, he evolves into an elite starting goaltender, but plays only parts of 3 more seasons d/t injuries.

Someone mentioned it a little while ago, but since OEL scored on Bernier from centre ice in January, his Sv Pct is sub .890.

I genuinely think that broke him mentally.

Bernier was acquired for a second round pick and a non-prospect. The idea that he came in with a ton of hype or the reasonable expectations that he would radically transform the Leafs at the position simply has no basis in reality. It's fantasy. The Leafs hoped he would develop into a reliable #1, just like they hoped Tyler Bozak would develop into a first line center or Phaneuf into an elite defenseman.

Like Carlton said, the idea that Bernier's, or any of those other guy's, failure to achieve that stems from a lack of desire is just more meaningless babble.
