Leafs Accquire McCabe and Lafferty

Lineup decisions are going to be really fun

Per Capfriendly, the Leafs would be just a shade over $1mil over the cap once Murray comes off LTIR and Woll goes down. So even sending someone like ZAR down doesn't make them cap compliant. I doubt they risk Timmins on waivers. Guess something else is coming (Kerfoot move?).

Let's do Kerfoot for Garland at 50% retained while we're at it.

The East is a serious arms race this year.

Imagine being an Oilers fan and watching Holland horde 1st round picks that'll probably just get used on busts while Connor McDavid has the easiest path to the Stanley Cup finals in his entire life.

They don't need to move anyone. They have just over 5M in space with Murray expected to come off LTIR shortly.
Question? Can the Leafs send Knies to the Marlies for a conditioning stint after they sign him? Not sure they have the 900K to sign him.

Doesn't need to be a conditioning stint. He's part of the organization already, so they can assign him there. He just won't be eligible for the AHL playoffs (I think).

Thx Busta..I thought Knies isn't eligible to be assigned there....and my cap calculation is wrong... I went on Cap Friendly and I guess the numbers weren't fully updated.

Meh. If giving up yet another first rounder, I'd expect to get players that appreciably improve the team. I'm not sure that either of these guys move the needle much at all.

McCabe is a 2nd pairing D man. They're not cheap and the Leafs got him at half retained for 2 more years at 2M. Leafs D just got a lot better because Muzz left a pretty big hole.

Leafs really needed someone to fill that 2LD hole that Muzzin left. Giordano's a warrior, but at his age it's questionable if he's really best suited for that spot this season, and even most questionable if he can do it consistently next season. Sandin unfortunately just hasn't proven he can do it either and the Leafs aren't in a position to wait for him.

I'll see how it nets out before getting too negative, but guys with averagish stats playing high pairings on shit teams for their careers don't necessarily translate to equal placement on good teams.

I am more than ok with this and the RoR/Acciari trade.

Look at the price that the Lightning just paid for Jeannot, or NJ on the Meier.

Dubas did all that and he kept all Leafs Prospects.

This is it, is do or die.

This is kind of what I was somewhat hoping for but wasn't sure if we could foot the bill. I am looking forward to the tough roster move that will follow (in which we have no leverage); pretty sure it's Kerfoot going home and hopefully without a sweetener.

Lets pick Ulmark for example, he was outstanding with a crap Buffalo team, Boston with a great D system, transformed him in a (more) dominant goalie.
