Love Clarkson blocking Riellys shot a few minutes ago. What a disaster.

It really seems as though he has no idea where the puck / his linemates are a lot of the time. He's in his own world.

Playoffs would be nice but this team has major major holes in their overall game. I am a huge Leaf fan (20+ years) but the realist in me doesn't see this team turning it on in the playoffs.

Im going to predict the opposite. I think they can turn it up a notch come playoff time.

Randy Carlyle says he didn't want to throw Drew MacIntyre into the game after Reimer gave up too many rebounds.

*sigh* I can't believe that this was even considered.

This game is largely on Randy. He iced the wrong line-up, as was pretty well evidenced by his hapless juggling of the lines late in the game. When is he going to get it right?

Yup, when they win, its the players. When they lose, its Randy. ::)

Ditto. Poor guy never seems to get the same length of leash that Bernier had.

Pretty sure people have been upset with lineup choices and decisions by him win or lose.  This is a convenient thing for you to say but not really based in reality, and like busta says, the team has sunk or swam on the backs of their goaltending and 1st line all season long.  Which of those should we be praising Carlyle for?  Seems to be either one would be doing what they are doing regardless of who is the coach.  Ignoring his lineup decisions, this team as a possession team and a team that outchances the opposition has cratered under Carlyle, propped up by goaltending, the 1st line and, to an extent, special teams (although the poor PK probably negates the positives from the PP).

He has GREAT goaltending yet look how many goals they've given up.  Either he has an effect on how many chances the Leafs give up or he doesn't - and if he doesn't, hire someone who CAN have an effect on that.

That's really it in a nutshell. I have a really difficult time identifying areas where Carlyle has been a positive or where the team has achieved a level it wouldn't be awfully close to regardless of the coach. On the other hand, I have very little difficulty identifying areas where I believe the team is playing below it's ability due to either Carlyle's coaching strategy, lineup decisions or bench management.

They could be 7th by close of play tonight.

If Detroit wins next game and then beats them they are only three back of Toronto.

Things could get dicey real quickly.

I would have been surprised if a goaltender change wasn't at least considered after a team goes down 3-0 in 8:44, regardless of how poor the team played in front of him or who the back up was.

When they lose...well Randy won a Cup.
When they win...it's Randy.

Watching that game was painful.  Reimer was giving up some rebounds in the 1st but they were all on point blank shots because Phaneuf can't be bothered to take his man.

Wasn't just Phaneuf. Franson, Gleason and, well, all the defencemen really let the Washington forwards take liberties in front of the net.

Wasn't on the ice for the 3rd one, and not much he could do on the 1st one the way they had them set up on that PK - man-on-man for Ovechkin and Washington exploited it.  Same thing happened to Gleason on the 3rd goal.

Yeah I know, just want the captain to step up in a game like this.  The defense, and the strategy was putrid.  They looked a lot better in the 2nd obviously and then the 3rd was a lot of ineffective reaction to what the Capitals were doing.

Now if the Leafs would of played in the first 15 mins of the first, they would of won this one. Reimer made some good saves, but I blame him on one. What is going on with the first line. No points in 4 games.

Yea what's wrong with Reimer? Doesn't he know that this Leafs team needs above elite level goaltending to win games? Also wtf first line?! With this level of poor playing I think we might have to start playing with more than just two lines!

Am I the only one that noticed how much Washington whacks and hacks up and down the ice?
