The EXACT same thing was said for Liles and Reimer and both were out a month.

Although, I guess with concussions you just never know.  Still, apparently Reimer never had one.

That's the problem with blows to the head - they can cause a number of different issues that all have very similar symptoms. Phaneuf could very well be symptom free by tomorrow, or, he could be much worse. It's jsut too hard to tell. Same thing with Reimer - he may not have had a concussion. In fact, all the reports said his baseline tests supported that, and, yet, we know he had the symptoms. At the end of the day, we'll never know for sure.

And, for what it's worth, Liles has only been out for 2 weeks so far, and, if not for the bronchial infection he's currently working through, he may have been able to come back already. Again, we don't for sure what's going on there, though, a mild concussion seems most likely.

Like previously posted I think Dion would have a cracked facial
bone so I would imagine it would be a re-occurance issue and
a pain threshhold issue. A full face shield like St Louis had on this
week would or should take care of the first issue.

So if Phaneuf and Komisarek are both in, who sits for the d?  Aulie?  Gardiner?

I guess it would be Aulie

Most likely Aulie. He's been less than great since his return. In fact, I suspect he'll be sent back to the Marlies and Holzer will stick around as the 7th dman until Liles is good to go.

I think I read somewhere that Holzer's already been sent down...

Holzer is already back down.

I know Aulie hasn't been great since back up but I thought he played a pretty solid game last night.  I also liked the way he pulled Downie away from Phaneuf against the Bolts and offered to fight.  I would have enjoyed that bout.  ;)

Well, he's not listed on the roster on the team's website, though, Dupuis is, so, who knows what that means. I haven't seen anything that says Holzer's been sent back.

Pretty sure I read a tweet yesterday from one of the usual suspects (mirtle?  Jonas Siegel?  Henny?) that said he was returned.  I remember that because I thought it was strange.

Not seeing anything from those three in their timelines. Closest to anything is that he wasn't at practice today.

EDIT: Ask, adn ye shall receive:

MapleLeafs: The #Leafs have assigned Matt Frattin & Korbinian Holzer to the @torontomarlies http://t.co/qRKurclU #Marlies #NHL #AHL

Frattin heading down is a bit of a surprise, though, having him on the 4th line was a bit of a waste. The other lines all seem to be clicking too much to change things up right now.

Frattin was playing OK, but not well enough to justify keeping him up when Brown comes back.

I really like what Aulie brings to the Leafs.

I might have kept him up ahead of Crabb, but, getting better minutes with the Marlies is probably better for his development.

Their play has been quite comparable IMO, so I agree, let him get big minutes with Eakins & crew.

Yeah, it's probably a case of playing Crabb on the 4th line isn't that bad as Crabb is pretty much what he is.  Playing Frattin on the PP, and on one of the top two lines on the Marlies is probably going to help out Frattin in the future.

I would agree with sending him down.  I have to say I'm pretty excited about Frattin.  I love his speed coming in off the wing and how strong he is on his feet.  More than a few times I've seen guys take a healthy run at him only to end up on the wrong end of the hit.  I think with lots of ice time and a good dose of Eakins he can turn into a 20+ goal guy.

As I type this, Frattin and Holzer (who I thought had gone already) have been sent down.

Edit:  I give up!  Late on one (Frattin) and wrong on the other (Holzer).  At least I didn't make any spelling mistakes.  :P

Ouch!

I'll miss frattin ..but i'm happy to have brown back ...hopefully he can work on the finer points of his game and come back even better..he's one of the few forwards the leafs have that really leverage their size to create plays in the offensive zone
