Tavaras is somewhat decent.

I'm starting to get a Mike Myers "So I Married and Axe Murderer" flashback

We have apparently signed Garret Wilson

Could provide a physical presence to the 4th line if Babcock is looking for that. His 2.3 hits per game last season would have put him 1st on the Leafs by a fair margin, especially among forwards (Muzzin led the team at 2.0, Hyman was 1st among forwards at 1.4). He took just 3 minor penalties in 50 games last season which is pretty impressive for a 4th line grinder type.

A Pens blogs' review of his season wasn't glowing but it wasn't awful either: https://www.pensburgh.com/2019/5/24/18636963/2018-19-penguins-season-in-review-garrett-wilson

I imagine this is mostly for the Marlies, but he could be an alright 13th forward who comes into the line-up every now and then.

I was wondering why the Leafs haven't officially announced any of these signings yet, but it's almost certainly for cap reasons. All players on 1-year contracts are included when calculating a teams offseason numbers. So the Leafs are keeping about $2.8mil in space open by not "officially" signing these 4 players yet. I wonder how the league feels about that though.

That is interesting that they're not official yet. Don't think it really matters seeing they can all be sent to the Marlies tho.

It matters because until training camp gets into swing they can't be sent to the Marlies. And like I said until then they count against the cap. So by keeping that $2.8mil open it helps potentially protect against a larger offer sheet for a certain RFA who I hope to god we don't start discussing here.

Thx, I didn't know that. But still the Leafs can go over the cap by 10% right?
And NO he's not allowed to be brought up here. There's enough crap in the other thread.

With the 10% summer overage allowance, it would have be to be a really crazy offer sheet for them to come into play. That 10% doesn't go away until 24 hours before opening night - by which point, these guys will mostly be Marlies.

From what I can tell the Leafs offseason cap total right now is about $77mil. This is the total of all 1-way contracts and 2-way contracts that played in the NHL last season on the team. So that's 11 forwards, 8 defencemen, and 3 goalies. That's not including these unannounced contracts and of course Marner's contract.

The 10% bump in the offseason brings the cap ceiling to $89.65mil. If you included those 4 minor guys you're adding about $2.8mil, which brings the Leafs to $79.8mil, leaving only about $10mil in offseason cap space for Marner. So yeah it could potentially make a difference during the offseason. The 10% bump is partially in place to account for the fact that "offseason rosters" are more than just 23 players.

You might reasonably say that Horton can be placed on the LTIR even during the offseason which would open up more room, but I'm not entirely sure how that works and probably nobody here truly does. I'm going to just guess though that it's more optimal to play the LTIR card at the start of the season than in the offseason.

So again, it just gives the Leafs a tad more flexibility until Marner signs which is something that they do need.

They literally just announced 7 scrub signings. Some I heard of some I didn't know

Pontus Aberg is an interesting name that hasn't been reported yet. Scored at a pretty good rate with the Ducks in the first half of the season before being traded to Minny.

Pontus Aberg!

If they had any sense of humor they would have signed and announced Marner in the middle of that list to see if anyone noticed.
