Sundin scored one from farther out but about the same angle against the Isles a few years ago ... and effin' Kerry Fraser waived it off for goaltender interference.  But point is, it takes an special talent to score a goal like Kessel just did.
Dude, how do you even remember something like that?

I remember it too...the leafs ended up not making the playoffs on the last day of the season to the isles...so that waived off goal cost us the playoffs in the end.

that and jersey sitting brodeur against the isles in their last game as well.

If it's still a Kessel/Seguin debate, Seguin is playing pretty well this year.

If we're just talking Bruins/Leafs, the Bruins won the Cup and still have Doug Hamilton to show for it.

I love Kessel and would rather him than Seguin, but I think we're still years away from determining a real winner there. Probably a wash, if anything.

Hamilton really hasn't looked all that impressive, the return that Boston got for trading Seguin hasn't helped them out yet (and definitely won't come close to what Kessel provides) and the trade had such a marginal influence on them winning the Cup that it's not even worth mentioning.

The Leafs, meanwhile, have one of the best offensive talents in the league.

It's not worth mentioning the won the Cup the season after the trade? I agree Seguin didn't do much in that run, but it's definitely worth mentioning.

It's really only worth mentioning if the trade had an obvious impact on them getting there. I'd say it did not. The fact that they won the Cup that season more coincidence than correlation.

Boy, I'm glad somebody else remembered that too.  It was Fraser Screws the Leafs II.

is it too soon to say MotM = Kessel?

The real question is HM.  If Reimer gets the

otherwise I'm leaning Kadri.

Well, it was an incredible shot, and on top of that the disallowed goal cost us a point that night.  And that was one of those years where we missed the playoffs by a point.  IIRC....

And yeah, also what LHF said!

Damnit look what you did now - I went looking to see if I could find that goal on youtube and just ended up going from one great Sundin goal to him setting up scrubs like Paul Healey and Jeremy Williams then back to another great Sundin goal...like this (go to 2:55):

or this:

Just imagine if he'd had some of the forward talent on this team to work with, sigh.

Kessel's now 38th in career points as a Leaf, passing Todd Gill. (Credit to Mirtle)

EDIT: And as Mirtle says further - needs 3 goals to tie Doug Gilmour as a Leaf.

Have to give someone credit. Who was it last week when Kessel was in a small slump and had mentioned he needed to pick it up and earn his new salary. Since then WOW.

I could watch Sundin highlights all day.

Kessel-Sundin-JVR ... wah.
