Minor moves and re-signings thread

I have to say, the Myers deal really boggles my mind the more I think about it.  That's the type of deal I'd give a guy like Doughty, who is arguably the best young d-men in the league and also one of the league's best.  $4.5 a year would have been more reasonable.

Pegula is spending like a drunken sailor.  But if I were a Sabres fan, I'd be thrilled as they finally have an owner willing to dish out the dough.  They better hope these deals (Myers, Leino, Ehrhoff) don't handcuff the team going forward though.

Umberger is an interesting baseline comparison for guys like Kulemin and Grabovski. Similar production between the 3.

I agree, but if Grabo and Kuli better their performances this season, we'd likely be happy if Burke can get them done for under 5 million a season.

I wonder if Grabovski's agent came to Burke with that offer today, if Burke would sign him to that deal.

Probably not, because Grabovski doesn't have the track record that Umberger has, but, if it looks like he's going to have another 25+ goal, 55+ point season, then, yeah, a contract of similar AAV will be in order.

Yeah. In the old site, I suggested north of 5 mil per might be a little generous. If he comes close to last year's production, I think slightly south of 5 mil per on a long term deal is fair. If he falls back to earth a little, I might be hesitant to go as high as Umberger but it's not outrageous in my opinion.

Grabovski (and Kulemin for that matter) as $5M cap hit players?  I have a hard time processing that thought.

That goes without saying that I find Umberger's $4.6M cap hit a tad high.  Granted, I understand a team like Columbus would have to overpay to lock up their talent long term.

Of the two Kulemin will, I think, eventually earn that but he's rfa next year so he'll really have to perform but I expect it from him at some point. Grabbo could probably mail in half the effort from last year and still find a team willing to fork over something close for his services as an ufa ( current market ), not that he will do that mind you.

Leino got 4.5 as a UFA with less history than grabbo has right now (although everyone thinks it is an overpay).  Unless grabbo completely falls apart I can't see him coming in under 4.5 per year.

He's had some major injury problems the last few years, only suited up 17 times last season, and only put up 4 points in that time.

If he lucks out and stays healthy, he can be a 20-40 guy.  Like you said though, no risk, good signing by the Kings, I think.

DarrenDreger: $600,000 (NHL) over $105,000 (AHL) for Brunnstrom on 1 year deal with Red Wings.

If the Wings turn his career around it will be another coup for them. He didn't impress me much while he was here, but obviously they saw something to like.

Thats just a sign to me that red wings' legendary depth is starting to dwindle.

Brunnstrom is a huge bust. Can't believe even the wings will take a flyer on him. Maybe they think the Swedish connection will help.

That's pretty much how I see it, too. They must need some AHL depth that can fill in as spot duty in case of injuries.
