This Hammond kid is propelling the Sens right back into the playoff hunt.

Didn't realize this until I just read DGB's latest column but the Hammond "kid" is 27, a month older than Reimer and six months older than Bernier.

Undrafted. Never heard of him. Sub .900 save% in the AHL this year. .910 last year. Nothing of note in his career since he left the BCHL in 2008-09.

Theres a good chance you'll never hear about him again after his run / spell is over. Everyone gets 15 minutes - even Andrew Hammond

If that's how it turns out, it's better than no NHL career at all. Hopefully, he can make a few bucks out of it. Neat story.

The hype has gotten a bit ridiculous over the last few days (everyone at the game tonight gets a free McDonald's hamburger) and the idea that it's only because of Hammond that the Sens are back in the playoff hunt couldn't be farther from the truth but I'll agree it's a cool story.

Guy comes in from the AHL, ignoring tonight where he's winning 3-2 in the 3rd, starts 7 games, wins 6, 1.35GAA, .957 save%

And he has nothing to do with it? Beyond the stats, I've watched some of the sports stations breakdown down what he's doing well, etc - showing his highlights.

If they win tonight, they're just 3-4 points out of a playoff berth ...

There isn't a team in the league who wouldn't welcome their AHL goalie coming up and doing that when their goalies are hurt. He deserves some accolades.

And he wins again taking 15 out of a possible 16 points (22% of the Sens points) in a little over two weeks since his first NHL start. Right back in the playoff hunt when so many had written them off.

Amazing. Good for him.

Don't recall saying he has had nothing to do with I'm saying it's not only because of him. The whole team is playing it's best hockey of the season.

Anyhoo - 3 pts back of Boston now and they're in town Tuesday. Huge week coming up.

My last game of my flex package is Sens / Flames on Sunday - was really looking forward to see Gio but I just found out it's Erik Karlsson bobble head night!

No you didn't. Poorly stated way by me of saying he's done his part.

I thought the Sens were out of it. I don't know if they can pull this off but the season has been revived.

Anyone got Lonny Bohonos phone number? Maybe he should talk with him ..  :)  .... John Druce will do ...  ;)

He's done his part by continuing to give us the goaltending we were getting out of Andy before he got hurt - to his credit absolutely no one thought he would provide that, I know I didn't!

We got Boston twice here over the next 2 weeks so we're going to find out fast if the team with the lowest payroll in the league has come back from the dead

I hope the Sens kick the Bruins butts. That would be fun.

It would but the North-East Sens are always a formidable opponent!

I just wonder if they can take the guy out of the net until he has a bad game (not just loses).

Great story and dare I say, the Sens are almost watchable  :P

Hoffman is quite the story too. Now if Lazar could just stop sucking....

Lazar isn't sucking they're just insulating his ice time and teaching him the other side of the game on the 3rd & 4th line while trying not to kill the kid at the same time. Think of how much hockey he's played over the past 2 years: Captained the Mem Cup winners last summer and has played in 2 WJRs - which obviously includes Captaining Canada to Gold this year, on top of a first full season in the NHL. And he's what 20 years old? You better teach yourself some patience if you're about to sit thru 4-5 years of an arduous rebuild of drafting & developing prospects into bonafide NHL players.

Might we say, those pesky Sens!

Didn't think they'd even come close to a playoff run, but look at where they are now.  That Hammond guy sure got it going...gotta give him credit for that.

I predict a massive choke job tonight (because I'm starting Anderson in fantasy).

If he manages a shutout, I promise to root for the Sens to make the playoffs.

Now 7 back of the Caps with 2 in hand and 1 against on top of being 5 back of the Bruins with 1 left against.
Basically (and I'm not saying this lightly) if we can go 10-5 in our last 15 we should get in with 95 pts. Not much room for error but the way they're chugging it's not in the realm of impossible.
Can't believe this run Hammond is on. Karlsson is a beast. Go Sens Go

I don't think the Sens would get in with 95 points. The Bruins would have to play under .500 the rest of the way, which in today's NHL not many teams do. Bruins will have the tie-breaker because of more ROWs.

If the Bruins pick up 15 of a remaining 26 points, which isn't hard...the Sens will need to finish the season with a record like 10-3-1 to get in. Not impossible, but I can't see them keeping this up or Boston falling hard this close to playoffs.

But it must be nice to have something to cheer for.  :'(

Well, they will have 3 guaranteed wins against the Leafs in there... so the rest of the games need to go 7-3-1 to get in.
