Parise to Minnesota

Ok, that made me laugh. (I don't agree though)

I think Kovalchuk gets an unfair rap for his competitiveness. In the games I've seen him play, I've never seen him float.

I don't know that I'd describe him as being a "floater" because I'd agree that he always seems engaged offensively. That said he is more of a perimeter player offensively and I think he'd have trouble picking any of the goalies he's played with out of a line-up.

I'm good with Kovy and like I said, I completely forgot about Perry. Now, I don't want to get in a whole other debate on him but there's at least two guys I'm more partial to.

Who plays better / offers more on an off night? Parise or Kovalchuk? To that I say Parise because Kovalchuk can & does completely disappear some nights, but he's still a top talent. Like Busta said he's got one of the best shots in the NHL.

Sure, but if you're going to go all-offense and ignore things like physicality/defense, why wouldn't you go with Ovechkin over Kovalchuk? He's younger, has better numbers and at least throws himself around.

Yeah OV for sure - I thought we were just comparing Parise & Kovalchuk.

Interesting tweet from LeBrun:

At the end of the day, am told Zach Parise generated 16-17 official offers and about 20 teams inquired

*That* could explain the 100M contract...

Yeah I would start with Ovechkin.

Well, like I said, to me the only real debate to kick around is Parise vs. Ovechkin. If you're only focusing on offense, Ovechkin has the best numbers. Even last year, in  what everyone acknowledges as Ovechkin's worst year in the NHL, he still scored more goals than Kovalchuk has averaged over the past three seasons. That's why I'm hardpressed to see why Kovalchuk, talented as he is, should even be in the discussion.

When you get to Parise vs. Ovechkin I think you've got a real question on your hands and I'm not sure there's a right answer but, as I said, put a gun to my head and I'm answering Parise. That said, I'm also the guy who thinks Pavel Datsyuk should have won at least two Hart trophies. What can I say? Defense matters.

NHL Owner: Supply and demand? We must crush this decadent capitalist extravagance, comrades.

Parise was drafted 17th overall by New Jersey in 2003.

Good article about Lamoriello:

I remember when J.P. Parise, Zach Parise's father, was playing for Minnesota, in the days when they were the North Stars.

The younger Parise obviously saw a chance to return to play in his home state.

Ryan Suter's wife hails from there as well.  Good fit for him, too.
