Phaneuf To Sens

No contracts longer than one more year and no retention

I believe Greening, Cowen and Michalek all expire after 2016/17.

So Cowen has 1 year left at $3.1 M; Greening has 1 year left at $2.65 M; Michalek has 1 more year left at $4 M.

1 year after this? So next year's trade deadline bait?
So Phaneuf may have brought back a prospect and a pick this year and 3 decent picks next year?

With no salary retention?

That's a stunning trade at first look.

Yep.  They're already updated on here for those interested: http://www.generalfanager.com/teams/toronto-maple-leafs

Does anyone think Lou has a deal in place for any of the Sens they acquired?

BTW, does anyone think it will be funny to see Cowen, Greening and Michalek in Leafs uniforms? I hope they burn.  :D

Yeah these hits are far easier to manage. I wonder if we flip any of these guys individually as well? FIRE SALE!

It's basically 1 year of those 3 at $9.75 M versus 5 more years of Phaneuf at $7M.

Cowen could get bought out to earn a cap credit. I could see Greening maybe getting bought out. Michalek could stick around, he was a 40-point player the last couple of seasons. In a Pareanteau-type role he might even bring back a pick at the 2017 trade deadline.

Yeah I wouldn't put anything past this management group, especially stuff that I have no idea they can even do.  That cap credit thing seems like something Pridham would be all over.

Tobias Lindberg was a 4th round pick by the sens in 2013. He's 20 years old, has 22 points in 34 games in his first season in the AHL. 6'3'', 215lbs. Scored 78 points in 67 games in the OHL last season. Played for Oshawa under now-Leafs assistant coach D.J. Smith.

Ottawa was very happy with how he played in the OHL playoffs last year.  They thought of him as a late bloomer.  Thought he had potential to be a real good 2nd liner.

Peace out Phaneuf... never hated thr guy he was just asked to do more then he could. When he played for CAL I thought he was going to be a Pronger 2.0 but that obviously never happened. He will help OTT.

That's a great connection to pick up on.

Shannon saying it boils down to Phaneuf for Lindberg and a pick when it's all said and done. Which is just incredible.
