While that's true to an extent, that's just not the way the league is likely to do things. If the rule is changed, it will apply to everyone the league considers to be front office staff, and that would include head coaches.

If that's true it really just makes me more confident that a change won't be made. I can't see there being any sort of set compensation for front office staff jumping ship that would peg the value of a AGM or DPP on a par with a Head Coach.

So who are the options left? Trotz? This is looking more and more like Randy will be here another year.

More Randy? Must be time to sign Orr to an extension before we loose Gardiner, Kulemin, Reimer and Kadri....Yikes

In terms of very experienced guys who coached in the league this past season? Yeah, just Trotz. In terms of potential candidates qualified to be the head coach of an NHL team? There are literally dozens of potential names. A lot of assistant coaches around the league could be considered, as well as a number of AHL coaches, NCAA coaches, junior coaches, etc. The Leafs don't necessarily have to go to the former NHL coach scrap heap.

Being as Hitchcock was never without a job him being on a list of candidates was pretty premature. Dineen, Muller, Trotz...the only real potential candidate who's been hired anywhere is Laviolette.

He hasn't been hired anywhere, either. He's still under contract in the KHL and has said recently that he's not looking to make an NHL comeback right now. Ron Wilson, however, is still available.

If Carlyle returns, Nonis should coax Lumme, Berg, Khavanov, Wozniewski out of retirment, and trade for the slow version of Luke Schenn just to show Carlyle how real defensemen are supposed to play.

Hope_Smoke: Dreger on TSN Radio "no news on Carlyle,  but I'll day it's eerily quiet coming out of Vegas."

Hope_Smoke: Dreger "if Carlyle isn't in Vegas, & the team refuses to answer whether he is or isn't, maybe you can read tea leaves as to why he isn't"

Hope_Smoke: Have to figure Dreger is pretty frustrated that he is getting frozen out by the Leafs after having a direct pipeline for so long.

I've seen a lot from this guy, but who's Hope_Smoke?

He's basically a no one, but, what he does is transcribe the various hockey radio shows and post them on Twitter. He's a useful follow for that.

With that defense Raycroft and Toskala in net will guarantee a #1 pick.
