Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

I think he's considered a very good coach.  If NJ had any measure of luck (seriously, 0-13 in shootouts is just crazy) or offensive skill they would probably be near the top of the Eastern Conference.

So now we're hiring a coach because of Clarkson's ridiculous contract?

If not DeBoer, then who would you like to see as coach?

The author of the article attached above is making excuses for why DeBoer had a losing record in New Jersey....

* The loss of the team?s two best forwards in consecutive seasons.
* The Martin Brodeur headache he was handed this season, a combination of fading star?s hungry ego and the acquisition of his replacement with one year left on Marty?s contract.
* The fact the players led DeBoer?s team to an 0-12 record in the shootout, which is the reason we?re not talking about where the Devils are seeded in the tournament now.

Yeah......He'd fit in well in Toronto.  ;)

Boy, I hope they don't use that piece of "logic" when hiring RC's replacement.  That's like trying to build the Taj Mahal out of rubble so as to match the one foundation stone that had a big crack in it.

He's been referred to as the anti-Carlyle by some of the guys on TSN, so, I'm good. He's very focused on puck possession and isn't afraid to look at the advanced stats.

Excuses don't have to have a negative connotation.  Can also be an explanation.  The odds of going 0-13 in the shootout is something like 1/1000.  It's awful luck.  He's had the team playing very well, they simply lack offensive weapons.  They have great possession numbers, but that can only take you so far when you can't finish your chances.  It is suggestive of a solid system.

DeBoer ending up in Toronto and Carlyle in Winnipeg seems like a distinct possibility. I heard the guys on the Fan suggesting the Jets are likely holding out to see what happens with Carlyle, and that Maurice's reservations of signing up there affords them that time.

What about that reply suggests that I'm not relaxed?

I dunno... the fact you're still on about it suggests something?? ;)

I'd be happy bringing Maurice back. He was not bad his first go around here. I thought he never should have been fired.

Maurice wouldn't be a terrible choice. At least he'd have some better players to work with this time around?

Well, if that happens, Reimer to Winnipeg is probably out.

It might be the first time in his career he'd coach a team that had quality goaltending.
