Rangers @ Leafs - Jan. 4th, 7:00pm - CBC, SN 590

If Kadri ever gets traded, at least I won't have to listen to Jim Hughson say "Naaazem Kaaaadri" quite so much.

Like nails on a chalkboard, I'm telling you.

I don't know what's up with Kadri.  He's trying hard, throws the odd hit, and you know he has moves, but he hasn't looked dangerous in eons.

I don't know either, but he looks like Grabovski 2.0 out there.

Contract year played well. Didn't get what he wanted, mishandled by RC and it's showing. He'll play better next year if he's still around.

Hope_Smoke: Still 40 minutes (this is the Leafs so 45 is more likely) to go. Still a chance for the Leafs to come back and blow a late lead.

Had an amusing situation in the British league tonight where the starter was pulled after 2 goals on 4 shots, the back up went in and conceded 5 on 13 shots and got pulled for the starter to go back in. All within 5 minutes of the start of the second period.

They lost 9-2

It has to be coaching.  All 6 defenseman keep pushing the puck back behind the net and then proceed to lose the puck battle on the boards.

The forwards are giving up the point shots.

And this IS NOT a fast team.  They don't skate.

Hi light of the game so far is the top pick in the 2026 draft during the tomb it's game.  Scored a hattrick and deked around the 20 other kids.  He competed harder than the Leafs.

43 games in, still getting heavily outshot nightly, maybe it's coaching.

Ya it's pretty pathetic and like you can't understand why it's not getting dealt with or gotten better. Personally I don't think it's coaching I think it's lack of intensity and sacrificing to get the puck back. Biggest thing I see and it's been going on for a very long time, not just this season and McFate will attest to this. It's our inability to get the puck out of our end. Futile efforts in the defensive zone. Whatever the system it's the players who have to defend better. What's there to coach when your defending 5 on 5. Sure there is a system but how hard is it to take a man.

Truth be told, I think our forward group is competitive, our goalies are great, but our D is close to the worst in the league.

The more we're hemmed in our zone, the less damage our forwards can do. It all starts from the back end. I was never in favour of Reilly playing on the Leafs - he should have been returned and played in the WJC.

The forwards are a big part of why the team gets hemmed into their own zone so much. They're not putting themselves in good positions to receive outlet passes, and that leads to giveaways. They're not providing enough support down low and they're not winning enough puck battles as a result. Defence is a team game, and the forwards aren't playing their part, which means the defencemen are being exposed.

Their entire defensive philosophy is flawed, and poorly executed.
