Sharks @ Leafs - Dec. 17th, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

Poor start and down early but the team scrapping and fighting back. Whatever about talent but you have to appreciate the effort and work ethic

So Holland is on his way to a pay raise next year, he's a winger now right?

Whatever he is, it's nice to see what he can do now that he's playing for a coach that has faith in him.

Funny, now Babcock has to get the Bernier faith, no choice. Good for Holland, he took the benchings like a champ.

In the broadcast they're talking about officially retiring 99 versus 19 internationally. Wilf Paiement was the last to wear 99 other than Gretzky in the NHL, and that was back in '82 ( for the Leafs ), this has moved into Lou rule territory and I kind of like that here, leave it unspoken and give it to Paul.

Well, in the NHL, 99 is retired league-wide. Internationally? I don't think any numbers should be retired, to be honest.

Polak may be classed as a bruiser but he can motor if need be.

Assuming this is the play you're referring to, Thornton isn't exactly a speed demon.

And he's not Jason Allison either.  He was a couple strides ahead and Polak caught him.

Sure, they retired it 17 years after anyone else wore it. I dunno, I don't mind the notion, you'd see some other numbers and players mentioned at least, it might be interesting.

I dunno. I just don't think players generally play enough international games to warrant having a number retired. I mean, Henderson, for instance, only played 15. He has an extremely iconic goal, yes, but is that enough of a career to warrant having a number retired?
