Tank Nation: Matthews Edition

I figured we'd win at least one of these last 4. Gotta start Sparks on Saturday. New Jersey will have Schneider in net so that'll be nice. And they're off Friday so we won't be playing a tired team.

Well, there's two ways to look at it.

1.  Hope for 30th, happy that the worst we end up with is Chychrun but be prepared for cosmic-level psychic damage as well as endless mocking when EDM wins the lottery anyhow.

2.  Settle for 29th, and be pleasantly surprised if we win the lottery while hoping for a top 4 pick.

Honestly, the difference probably will turn out to be not that much.

That said, I have a feeling we are going to end up 30th.  Not worried.

I was listening to TSN after the game, and it was mentioned that Sparks will get the start Saturday.

Man, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm finding the finish to this season a little bit nerve-wracking.

Saturday night:
Toronto: 4-6-0 in their past 10. 15-23-2 on the road.  :D 1W streak  >:(
@
New Jersey: 3-6-1 in their past 10. 18-17-5 record at home  :D - L4 streak  :-\

This should be an awful game to watch. Hopefully NJ will honor their fans and put in an effort for their last home game.

Edmonton: 4-6-0 in their past 10. 12-23-5 record on the road. 1W streak
@
Vancouver: 3-6-1 in their past 10. 14-21-5 record at home. 1L streak

Another terrible game, but hopefully McDavid puts on a show.
Edit: I think Edmonton owes it to the rest of the league to win this game.
Just loose dammit! Gardiner should be traded for scoring that goal. Even if they do loose it's still a coin flip to "win" a top 3 pick.

Wait, is this really a thing? Are some people legitimately angry at players for trying? Wow. Just let the team play and where ever they end up they end up. They are already icing an AHL-caliber team; get mad at Philly or Steve Mason if you, for some reason, need a scapegoat.

I don't mind at all if the Leafs finish 2nd last. Guaranteeing a top 5 pick is good enough for me. I'd be happy with any of the players taken. Obviously moreso if it was Matthews or the two Finnish guys, but I still would love Tkachuk or Nylander.

I'm hoping we can also make a big splash at the draft.

No it's not a thing. Obviously the Leaf players are going to try and win. Yeah trade Gardiner...

In an ideal Karma Scenario, Edmonton finishes 30th and lose the draft lottery and draft 4th overall.

I'm fine with the Leafs at 29th. This is another team after the deadline, it is fun to watch it again.

To bad Kapenen didn't picked a point.

The funny thing is that might actually be the best thing for Edmonton as it'll force them to finally draft a defenceman.

Has karma ever affected Edmonton in the draft?  They already ticked off everyone last year by winning McDavid.  i'm sick of that team drafting #1

Yeah. The unwritten rule of picking the best player available regardless of position, loses some of its relevance after you've picked first overall a hundred times.

If our Leafs don't get the 1st overall pick, I hope Edmonton gets it.  If all their 1st overall players end up earning top salaries at some point, there's no way that they can keep them all!  :-\

So far, Edmonton has wasted all the #1 picks they've acquired.  I hope they keep it up.  ;D

You understand this is the Tank thread, right? Although, I am humming Que Sera, Sera now, so thanks for that.

So, lets say that the Leafs win the lottery.

If the Coyotes propose a trade like Max Domi + 7th overall for the 1st overall, would you pull the trigger ?

For me is a no Brainer, they get their local Kid, we get our + a 7th could translate into Alex Nylander or Jacob Chychrun (with another move up, since they do have tons of 2nd rounders in the next drafts)

Would you ?

Good lord no. Not only are Nylander and Chychrun fair bets to be gone by 7 but you're not passing on a potential franchise center unless you're getting a franchise player in return.

Pass. Easily. The pieces we'd be getting back aren't things that this organization is desperate for.

Nylander > Domi
Marner > 7th overall pick

Matthews is something that we don't have and haven't had for almost 10 years now.

Not even close. They'd have to add Strome, OEL, and probably Dvorak for the Leafs to make that deal. Domi's a nice young player and all, but Matthews is a franchise player. You don't give that up without essentially building your franchise from that deal.
