Tank Nation: Matthews Edition

I wouldn't cry if Laine was our guy.

Funny thing, if you watch this video, you can see him have his look at where he wants to shoot, looks down and doesn't look again at the net, then lets it rip without another visual reference to the net. Ya I actually really like this kid.

So the Leafs finish with 69 points for 30th place. That's the 2nd highest point total for a 30th place team ever. Tampa had 71 in the 2007-08 season when they finished last.

Silver-lining?  That's actually something positive to make out of that.  Or, it goes to show how much more the Leafs need to improve upon on getting out of the cellar.  Either way, time it will take.

You are right Heroec S, ya leave a little space for the cloth to breath. Lets add some neon to really accent the products and services. Oh have we invented unbreakable Neon as yet?

That sounds a lot better than the 2nd highest point total for a 30th place team in the last 16 years.  ;D

Ever! Hah, I meant to say 2nd highest point total for a last place team in the 82-game era. Maybe even going as far back into the 80-game era in the 80s. I only quickly scanned a few years there but it doesn't seem like any last place teams got that high.

So, even if we lose the lottery; we will still get the 1st pick in all the other rounds...correct?

Yes.

As simple as that is, I hadn't really thought about it. Not only do the Leafs have all of their picks this year - and how often can you say that - but they have the first pick in every single round (1st overall TBD). Given this team's history of throwing picks away, this is incredibly refreshing, and pretty exciting.

I can't wait to see the fruits of all this drafting and development.  In 10 years I want to be able to look at the team and see a Chicago or Detroit type of success, year in, year out they're contenders and always seem to have a crop of good young players in the system ready to step in.  I know Detroit isn't as good as they were, but still 25 straight seasons in the playoffs is the type of long term success that Leafs fans can only dream about right now.

Any offer sheet able players around?

I would personally avoid this strategy while we are intending to be bad, as we would be giving up some top of the round picks for the offer sheet.

just another option but if they are picking 4th, for exmple, it will be more enticing than if they were picking first or second.  Obviously depends on which player also.

An offersheet would not involve this year's draft picks. It's generally not a smart team building strategy, as you basically to significant overpay in terms of both the cap and the assets sacrificed. It's best avoided.

admittedly I haven't really looked but I hadn't heard if there was a player that was attracting any interest.  I was just wondering if there were any interesting options.  thats all.
