The 2014-2015 Toronto Raptors Thread: Why Not Us?

Bruno Caboclo NBA debut on right now.

The crowd is going nuts.  Chanting his name on every offensive possession and they lost it on his first basket...a really nice alley-oop dunk.

52 bench points tonight, 43 from Grievis and Sweet Lou Williams in a combined 43 minutes.

It's just a downright good basketball team. Very little selfish play and not a lot of ego.  Lou Williams has to be the front runner for 6th man right now.  His scoring ability is huge.

Last night in the 4th quarter, they had 5 guys on the floor who were all bench players.
They were playing against Atlanta's starting 5.
This team is very deep and when Lowry or DeRozan have an off night there are a myriad of players able to fill in the scoring.
With Rose getting injured every other game, it looks like it might be the Raps and the Cavs fighting it out until the end.
Big, big test on Friday against the Mavs. The Raps have to show they can hang with the best teams in the West

These Raps are mighty confident...

ESPN pegs the Raptors at 100% the chances for making the playoffs and gives them a 71% chance to make the championship final.  It also gives them a 41% chance of winning it all.

Fazed by all of that?  Nah, not these Raptors...

"We don't care about nothing ESPN is saying, honestly," DeRozan said. "Nobody cares what anybody says. We care about everybody that's got this Raptors jersey on. Everything else don't matter to us, man."

"We've got our confidence," Vasquez added. "We don't need anybody to talk about us, whether it's good or bad."

"We like playing on the road, we like playing in other people's arenas, we get a thrill out of going to other people's houses and beating them," DeRozan said. "If you've got that type of mentality, we can go a long way."

"I think two years ago, a year-and-a-half ago, we would have folded the tent," Casey said. "But there seems to be a resolve developing with our players, fighting through stuff, fighting through adversity, making adjustments at halftime mentally and physically. That's a tough way to live throughout this live. As a coach I'd prefer we'd start doing it the first quarter. . . that's our next step."

An adductor longus tendor tear means anywhere from 4-12 weeks of recovery depending on the need for surgery.  Right now it doesn't look like surgery is on the table so we are probably looking at 4-6 weeks recovery time.

Not having DeRozan in the lineup will be a test for the Raptors in how they fare without their leading scorer.  Everyone will need to step up a bit and judging by the way the team has been playing, there is no reason to believe they can't.

GO RAPTORS!

First game without DeRozan and a loss to the sad sack Lakers in overtime.

Saw the replay of his injury and it looks like he just slipped on the floor on a routine play. That's pretty terrible luck.

A nice bounce back to beat Sacramento and Utah on the road.

A couple of tough games coming up against the Cavaliers at home and then Denver and the Cavs in a back to back.  Their next 6 games after that are by teams that are a combined 33-80 on the year.  They finish up with Chicago prior to the Christmas break.

Good opportunity to hit at least 20 wins before Christmas, and in reality should probably be closer to 22-6 if they play to potential by the end of this stretch.

The Eastern Conference: It's FAN-tastic.

The bottom 5 teams in the East have a combined record of 17-74.

If the playoffs started today. The #1 seed Toronto Raptors would face the 8-9 Brooklyn Nets in a playoff rematch.

Raptors blow a lead to lose their 2nd game to Cleveland in a week.  Some shady officiating going on in the 4th quarter but this team needs to find a way to overcome that kind of stuff.

Against the lowly Magic, sure, but the Raps win tonight only allowing 30 points in the second half.

New Raptors logo.  Altogether with new team uniforms that will be unveiled next summer....

I think what's good about that logo is that they don't have to change it if they ever change the team's name to the Toronto Watermelons.
