The 2014-2015 Toronto Raptors Thread: Why Not Us?

I didn't know this until recently but apparently it's a NBA rule that any new logo or re-design has to feature a basketball within the logo. So, you know, that does tie hands somewhat.

This, however, this just looks like Brooklyn's logo.

That seems like a silly rule. I wonder what the reason is.

Home sweet home..Raptors,  sporting a 14-3 home record,  defeated the  NYKnicks 118-108,  led by Lowry,  Williams,  & Vasquez,  each with 22 & 21 points respectively,  along with contributions from Ross ( 18pts ) and Valenciunas & Jesse Johnson 10pts each.

Now. ... a Western road trip beckons. ..

So this was probably the first basketball game I've watched in full on TV. I went to see the Raptors v Chicago Bulls back in about 2002 and really enjoyed the atmosphere and spectacle but I've never really enjoyed it as a TV sport.

I think it's the fact scoring is so regular and "easy" or something.

But I actually kind of enjoyed this game. In the past I would have watched highlights programs and things like the All Star Slam Dunk challenge thing. With the Raptors going so well I'm hoping TV over here picks more of their games too.

(The game on Saturday at Cleveland is on so I'll hopefully catch that too)

This is crazy. Josh Smith was straight up released by the Pistons today so they'll be eating the 27 million they owe him over the next two years. He's been comically bad this year but still, that's a ton of money to pay someone to go away.

Heck of a game for Kyle Lowry tonight. Going toe to toe with Chris Paul and Lowry played him off the court. He should be the East's starting PG in the ASG.

Those high-flying Raptors in their soaring red jerseys!  Led by Lou Williams with 31 points and Lowry with 30, along with solid support in the form of Amir Johnson, Tyler Hansbrough, Ross, & Patterson, the Raptors defeated the Denver Nuggets 116-102.  They've won their last seven of eight, and are 2-1 W/L so far on this roadtrip.

Golden State trumps the Raptors 126-105.  A Raptor loss  coupled with an Atlanta Hawks win, tumbled the Raptors out of first in the Eastern Conference.

So the Raptors....they're kind of a mess right now.

Eh, it's really just more of a correction. They had a soft home-friendly schedule to start the season and now for the most part they're getting beat by teams who can/should be beating them. 26-14 is about right.

I know we might be feeling blue as Leafs fans right now but the Lakers starting lineup tonight was:

Jordan Clarkson
Wayne Ellington
Ryan Kelly
Jordan Hill
Robert Sacre

So Lakers fans paying Lakers ticket prices are sort of our Basketball equivalent these days.

Yeah, but at least the Lakers have numerous championships in the past 15 years.  I'd take the Leaf woes over the past few years if it wasn't lots of woes over the past 45.

All-Star Game "exclamation mark" in Lowry's oareer...

Looks like no trades for the Raps today at the deadline. It was a busy day though. Shame they couldn't get in on Tyler Ennis as he was one of three PG's Phoenix dealt today.

I'm not sure if the Raptors will be viewed as a destination for veteran minimum's but it's too bad they couldn't find a way to grab a backup rebounder.

Woohoo!  The Raptors blew out the number one team in the EC last night,  the with a oonvincing 108-80 thrashing of the Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta.

Led by DeMar Derozan's 21 pts; and Lou Williams' seven three-pointers, the Raptors took a lead early in the game they never relinquished.

In NBA news, the Heat's Chris Bosh out for rest of season with blood clots in the lungs.

The Raptors are going through a wicked slump over the last week or so.  Lowry and Derozan forgot how to play basketball.
