TOP 5 PICK!!!

Well, the way I was looking at it, Kessel is 6'0" and 200+ lb and even he gets pushed around a fair bit.  Lombardi is 195 on a 5'11" frame and has even more trouble.  Given that, 6'2" and 180 doesn't seem like much.

That's not the kind of thing you can really tell from a player's listed height and weight though. Mike Richards is listed at 5'11 199 and he's not easily pushed around. Giroux is listed at 5'11 172 and the same for him. Crosby's listed as 5'11 200, Datsyuk at 5'11 198 and so on.

At any rate we aren't dealing with numbers that are particularly accurate. It's funny how some players well past their stage of adolescence can apparently grow another inch after being traded to a new team.

The only numbers that I think are actually precise are those taken at the draft combine, and since it's not unheard of to keep growing past 18, those numbers are only a snapshot in time.

Well said, Snoop!  8)  That name (Kush) will always remind me of Venice Beach, and those memories are nothing but great!

Future Considerations released their top-15 mock draft:

http://futureconsiderations.ca/vickers-lottery-causes-mock-draft-mania/

It has Yakupov-Galchenyuk-Grigorenko-Murray-Forsberg as the first 5 picks. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go this way. Edmonton winning the lottery really doesn't help help the Leafs get Galchenyuk, who has been getting some serious praise lately. If Edmonton stays at #1 then it likely means that the top-3 forwards will all go in the first 4 picks. Had they stayed at #2 there probably would have been two defencemen going before the Leafs picked.

Yeah, I said before the lottery this could happen. Now, if Forsberg goes at 4, Dumba is my guy.

Edit; tough to pass on Murray though too.

If Forsberg goes at 4, that means one of Galcheyuk, Grigorenko or Murray are still on the board. Go with one of them.

Yup. Murray reminds me a little of Adam Larsson last year. 2nd overall talent that could drop to a very happy team at 4/5.

Though I suppose that goes against that whole BPA thing I've been preaching.

Dumba would, yes, but not Murray.

Honestly, the only way the Leafs should be considering Dumba is if they get an offer they can't refuse to move down a couple spots.

I was referring to Dumba, yes. I think that mock is correct though in that he doesn't make it past Anaheim given their needs.

Maybe. They might go for Trouba or Rielly, though. From what I've read, the difference between those 3 may not be significant.

I can't help but wonder about the possibility of Edmonton trading the first overall with Columbus gaining a pick or other asset in the process, then turn around and trade the second overall to Toronto for the fifth overall + a pick or prospect/player. This would still allow them to get one of the top rated defensemen + gain assets. Columbus takes Yakupov, Toronto gets Galchenyuk (or Grigorenko, although I'm personally hoping for Galy).

Oh, I'm sure Burke is going to put the whole "everybody gets what they want" spin in negotiations. There really could be a lot of movement in this draft.

Just saw the headlines, Forsberg scored both goals in Swedens 2-0 win over Russia in U18 World Championship. Very impressive, within 2,5 minutes early in the first period two strikes and then Swedish goalie hold the fort.

Nail Yakupov's agent Igor Larionov says every team with a top draft pick has talked to he and/or Nail. Except for Edmonton. More to come...

Also, isn't Ryan Murray invited to the World Championships?  And isn't that team more or less run by the Oilers brass?

More and more I am getting the impression the Oilers trade the pick.

I can't say what will happen but that also means I don't think it's a foregone conclusion. Just the other day I read Larionov touting Yakupov as a guy who wants to play in Edmonton and Tambellini said ?Getting to know Yakupov is going to be big going forward" after the lottery.

Tencer's tweet doesn't say a whole lot to me except pointing out Edmonton hasn't had their talk yet.

Edited for Tencer...

Kevin Lowe is the only Oiler on Team Canada's management team. As for Murray, it was speculated that he would get an invite to join the team but it has yet to be confirmed. With Schenn's addition today they now have 5 NHL defencemen, and I'm sure they'll be hoping to grab 1 or 2 more once teams start getting eliminated. If Murray does join the team, I doubt he sees any action.

Also, an hour after that tweet about Larionov Tencer wrote:

Further to previous tweets, the Oilers contacted Yakupov's other agent Ian Pulver on April 4+5 to set up interviews and medicals......Pulver is expected to meet with Steve Tambellini at the U18 tournament in Czech Republic to coordinate.

A good showing at the U18's could help us even if the Leafs don't draft him. He could get a bump into the top-5 with maybe Columbus or New York taking him, which could leave Grigo or Gally for us. So here's hoping he continues to light it up.
